This review is from: Dreaming Apes (Audio CD)
I think now that I have this album I was trying to find for about three years, all I can say is I am glad I have it! This album shows how Wolfsheim, the duo consisting of Peter Heppner and Markus Rhinehardt, were always going beyond any classifications to always be on the cutting edge. This may have cost them some exposure along the way, but it makes them one of the most talented bands around. My favourite songs, there are three. "Anyway", an edgy gothic piece written in a minor key to get the emotions flowing inward, with the intended effect, shows off Peters fine vocals...Personally this is not an easy song to 'sing along' with, it is now a melodic piece. The other two faves, are " Old man's Valley" and Ubers Jahr" (Over the Year)...and those two are very melodious and you will have no trouble singing along to both. In the CD booklet, which is almost a book in its own right, the lyrics to the songs along with artwork for each song add another dimension to this masterpiece.
If you take your music seriously and you don't mind looking in some dark places, then check this out, search the internet, its here, and worth the price!. There is nothing I can compare this too, musically speaking, but I am from the Pink Floyd generation, and to me, this level of experimentation reaches a similar level, if I can reverence anything here, that may be it.
