1.0 out of 5 stars cards might be lovely, but email from author was vitriolic
In searching for a gift for a friend, who had this deck high on her list, I was excited when I found not only the deck but other beautiful items such as a coffee mug on the author's personal site for sale as well. And then the shipping charges came up to $22.50 for a mug, a deck of cards, and a set of bookmarks. I nearly choked. Just the deck of cards came to $8.50...

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeously Bright Fractal Art Oracle, March 11, 2008
This review is from: The Dreaming In Color Deck (Cards)
At first glance, the Dreaming In Color Luman Deck(tm) appears to be a straightforward--albeit ethereal--divination deck. But once you start working with the cards, you realize this deck is something far more than just another pretty oracle.

Created by Mindy Sommers, The Dreaming in Color Luman Deck(tm) is divinely channeled in both art and meaning--specifically designed to develop the user's intuition. The color-soaked imagery evokes a feeling of both depth and expansiveness--almost as if you're falling into a dreamscape of the subconscious.

This unusual oracle can not only be used for divination, but also for healing and meditation. In fact, I don't think I've ever come across a deck--either Tarot or oracle--which seems to work like a Rorschach. That is, the vibrant images are not cluttered with iconographic litter which tries to dictate the card meaning; rather, this 60-card deck serves as a multi-dimensional tool that provides immediate information. Like a pebble thrown into a cosmic pond, these cards ripples through the ego's layered defenses and brings forth vital guidance to the surface.

Inscribed on each card is a word that helps the user absorb the energy of its meaning, as well as provide a focus to receive insight on questions about the past, present, and future. I feel that this deck is especially helpful for those wanting to transcend negative personality patterns or to understand repeating relationship themes that have proved frustrating.

Using vibrant colors spanning a palette of greens, purples, reds, oranges, yellows, pinks--and even a few in black and white--these cards are gorgeous to look at just from an aesthetic perspective. In fact, my husband (who has little interest in Tarot or oracle decks), could not stop looking at the card images. He's a huge fan of fractals, and thought they were stunning in their intricacy and coloration. Many images are floral in nature, but they appear to be much more than just flowers. Also included with this deck is a pamphlet with the channeled card meanings.

Personal Notes

I did a 3-card spread with this deck, and it was insightful. Yet, I feel that these cards are better served by reading them organically--as an intuitive story board that's not beholden to rigid spread positions.

I feel these cards are best used for serious interior healing and consciousness work, perhaps in conjunction with spiritual practice such as meditating and journaling. If you want quick fixes and answers, I feel the profundity of this deck may be lost on you. Its use as a healing and meditation deck is unsurpassed in my opinion. Somehow, Mindy Sommers takes problematic emotions such as avarice, resentment, and pettiness and provides a visual and spiritual portal with which to see these issues clearly--yet without any shaming or disturbing imagery. This is a delicate balance that's not easy to pull off, in my estimation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Transcendly beautiful deck, January 11, 2010
This review is from: The Dreaming In Color Deck (Cards)
This is hands down one of the most stunningly beautiful decks you will ever find. The artwork is so luminous, so beautiful, so other worldly, it will transport you to a place in your imagination that you never want to leave. It is in this part of the imagination that you can truly access those deep intuitive aspects of yourself, and connect with something transcendent. Each card has a stunning other-worldy type floral impression or landscape with an emotion or quality as the keyword of the card such as "Joy", "Envy", "Nurturing" or "Forgiveness". Mind you, these are not paintings or pictures. These are impressionistic images that are dreamy and etherial. But make no mistake, these are not just froofie, nice-to-look at images. The spreads I have done using this deck are extremely accurate. My favorite way to use this deck is for couples readings. If someone is inquiring about their relationship, romantic or otherwise, I will have one person draw a card for themselves, and one card for the other person. Every single time, without fail, the card represents the essence of the person to a tee. The reaction of the person receiving in the reading from this has always been profound and powerful.

Since it is so hard to describe this deck, I encourage you to go online, to websites such as Aeclectic Tarot where I discovered the cards, to see them yourself. Either you love them, or they do not speak to you. I remember when I first saw these images online several years ago, I just had to have them, and I waited weeks until I bought them because my intuition would not rest until I had these in my collection (there is absolutely nothing like them!). I have since been a frequent customer of the author's other products on her website which are all breathtakingly beautiful.

One other note about the customer service. I have found the proprietors of these cards and their other products to be warm, generous, and all around terrific people. I encourage you to add these brilliant cards to your collection. Your imagination will thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars You will never find art like this in another deck, January 6, 2010

I have many different kinds of decks, from totem animal decks to traditional tarot decks to rune-based decks. This is by far the loveliest, with the most original of art. Anyone who has seen this deck and who has also seen Ms. Sommers' art on her websites knows that this is art that if you find elsewhere, it is a copy of her designs, not originally derived and produced. Not only that, but the meaning within the cards is deep and relevant.

The shipping is a little high, but she could easily charge more for the deck and it would be worth it, so the shipping price is of very little consequence to me. I consider my deck to be a collector's item -- a one of a kind, even though I'm sure many have been produced, bought and sold, because the artist and spiritualist is so adept that once they're gone and are no longer being produced, there will be nothing around that can replace it.

4.0 out of 5 stars lovely inspirational cards, February 24, 2006

I am a Tarot "Reader", and hope to use these vividly colored cards along with my other Tarot decks. Although not a Tarot deck per say, it does offer inspiration and opens doors to the unconscious for personal discovery and insights. Each dream card could be used as a meditation or focus for the day. This lovely deck would make a fine gift for the spiritually aspired.

Very beautifuld Oracle Deck, and it gives eerily accurate readings and advice! My husband also loved this deck. The pictures seem to literally pull the viewer into them and 'speaks' to you in some way....

An unforgettable Deck! Once you see one of these pictures, it sticks with you!

1.0 out of 5 stars cards might be lovely, but email from author was vitriolic, June 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Dreaming In Color Deck (Cards)
In searching for a gift for a friend, who had this deck high on her list, I was excited when I found not only the deck but other beautiful items such as a coffee mug on the author's personal site for sale as well. And then the shipping charges came up to $22.50 for a mug, a deck of cards, and a set of bookmarks. I nearly choked. Just the deck of cards came to $8.50 shipping, and even Amazon is less than half of that price in shipping. So I didn't complete my checkout.

My email box received an automated reply asking why I didn't complete checkout, so I sent an email explaining why, that I thought the shipping charges were just too high. I explained it factually, and never once used any derogatory terms or made it personal in any way. As a previous business owner, I just thought she might want to know why a sale was not completed. Afterall, she did ask.

This was the reply I received:

"A top of the morning to you there!
Nothing makes Mindy's and my day brighter than opening our email box and there's a warm, cheery communique from another member of the "Light and Love" crowd. It's wonderfully, spiritually uplifting messages like yours that allow us to improve the color of our souls as we endeavor to live our lives pursuing the nirvana of our dreams. Not only have you put the quintessential smile on our faces, but you have definitely shown us the way in how to handle our business in the future.
I think the two things that we carried away from your warm and snuggly email. The first was: if we bend over backwards and try to work with a person, they *might*, "might" revisit and shed their light amongst us again? The second thing is, there must not be much value in the friendship. A couple of bucks makes that much difference, huh? The point is, these emails do not tell a business anything. They are more of an attempt by the person sending them to give their position and life validity when they have very little.
For the record, we are limited on our ecommerce site by the software we have to use. There are certain product combinations that make for high shipping on the website. No, we weren't interested in this email.
You take care and have a really, really awesome day."

By purchasing these cards, you are supporting this type of vitriolic, insensitive behavior and attitude.

If this is the energy you want to purchase, by all means, purchase these cards. While lovely, I myself don't want to hand over my very limited income to a person with this kind of attitude towards "customers." There are multitudinous other decks out there. I don't need to support a business who tells me that my life has very little validity just because I tell them their shipping is outrageously high when they sent me an email asking why I didn't complete the sale.

Yeah, right.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~UPDATE, JANUARY, 2010:
The author of these cards has left a comment here. She writes, "You really should be honest and post the nasty, combative email you sent to my husband and I. It will explain why you received that response from my husband. At least have some integrity and be honest with your criticism. You left out half the story. You're not a victim here, you were nasty without provocation, and our response to your unsolicited venom was more than appropriate. In fact, it was rather mild next to yours. --Mindy Sommers"
Mindy, I am being honest. I WAS IN NO WAY NASTY OR COMBATIVE IN MY EMAIL TO YOUR HUSBAND. IT CONTAINED NEITHER VENOM NOR WAS IT UNSOLICITED. I RECEIVED AN AUTOMATED EMAIL FROM THE SHOPPING CART YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO USE ON YOUR SITE ASKING ME WHY I DID NOT COMPLETE PURCHASE, AND I ANSWERED EXACTLY WHY--THAT YOUR SHIPPING CHARGES ON YOUR WEBSITE ARE OUTRAGEOUS. I STATED A SIMPLE FACT; NOTHING MORE. IF YOUR HUSBAND SHOWED YOU AN EMAIL THAT HAD SOME SORT OF VENOM IN IT, THEN IT WASN'T WRITTEN BY ME.
And honestly, after seeing the deck, the entire deck, up close and in person, and reading the booklet that came with it, I can honestly say that it drips with negativity. The pictures are pretty, but the text is the same as the email from the husband....vitriolic!!!
Mindy, your comment only proves my point in my original review.
