"Dreaming in Darkness" isn't your average "rags to riches" story. There are too many of those out there. No, this is a stunningly raw look at a woman's journey from love and loss and a staggering pain to a slow, gently budding hope. From darkness to that first tentative tiptoe into the light. From anger and tears to soft, gentle touches and whispered words lifted up to the night sky.

The moments in this book, from the familiar, poignant ache of lost love in "Almost Lover" to the gentle transformation in "Red & Blue Alice", are guaranteed to touch your heart. Jess Kristie doesn't pull any punches as she takes us along her path, reminding us that sometimes in life we win, pull ourselves up and start over again...but sometimes we don't. Sometimes there are moments in life that change us so profoundly that we have no choice but to become what life has shaped us, destined us to be.

Life isn't the destination. It's the journey, and the days you spend dreaming in darkness before stepping out into your own new beginning.

Extraordinary work from an extraordinary author.

5.0 out of 5 stars She will speak to you too. April 18, 2011
By Lindsay
Format:Kindle Edition
Jessica Kristie has put to words the human condition. Her poetry and prose speak straight to every soul. While fearing obstacles, we must forge forward. We have to find even the smallest speck of light at the end of the tunnel. "Dreaming of Darkness" allows the reader to do just that: see the beauty in every day struggles. A difficult task to undertake, Jessica does so with grace and beauty. I enjoyed every poem, every evocative word, and my personal journey through her passages. This book is stunning.

5.0 out of 5 stars What better words for love...and loss... May 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
So very deeply moving. Jessica Kristie has filled the pages with such heartfelt poetry and loss. Sadness and love intertwined together creating such a masterful and addictive piece of work. Such a great talent, as you will find yourself enraptured through her poetry and pain. More than simply beautiful.
She brings that what aches inside and lays it on paper. The raw emotion of love and loss.
That which it is. And that which it may be.
It's way better than beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating prose and poetry... April 10, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Dreaming in Darkness, by Jessica Kristie, is a poignant, and deeply moving journey about love and loss. Many will find solace in Jess Kristie's ability to take that which lives deep inside the heart and soul, and translate those feelings and emotions into gorgeous poetry and prose. Love unrequited...promises made and broken...despair and heartache---these are the things we, as humans, eventually feel when we open our hearts to others. Never have I seen raw emotion represented so eloquently, as love lays it's staggering, oft-times, painful tune. Both powerful and captivating, Jessica Kristie delivers a body of work you will not soon forget.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Powerful Diary In Poetry! July 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Dreaming In Darkness is a powerful diary in poetry, and prose. The beautiful poetry reveals a breathtaking journey through a painful hell that moves gradually upwards over a bumpy road, ultimately, leading into a state of healing.

Jessica's poetry is a divinely classic work of art. Her flowing imagery is clear without a second of awkwardness. The poignant story is bold, a blatant display of pain, and suffering woven into the vision her words create.

The perfect order in which the poems are placed creates the sense of a diary, a fascinating collection of the poet's most intimate thoughts.
`Sarafina' You shine
You speak
We listen

The author guides the reader into the myriad of emotions experienced in the victim's abyss. `Induced Sleep' finds the battered soul in a medicated state, drowning in the pain, yet here she begins to process her choices as she meets her self in the crossroads.

Still, further into the pain `Force Forgotten' paints a bird's eye view of the crime and the victim comes face-to-face with the perpetrator.
`My legacy won't be this,
but yours will.
Stew in your own sin.'

This revelation frees her to search for a healing aid. The hallways greet her with doors of deception. `Bad Religion,' `This Mourning,' and 'Walking Wounded' portray encounters with some disingenuous souls that clutter the pathway.

In 'Temporary Royalty' she begins to experience the highs and lows from within a different place. Here, she sees tiny glimpses of light periodically penetrating the darkness. Later, The bud starts blossoming in 'Love Letters.' The fabulous poet surprises with prose. The change symbolizes a less rigid environment, freedom. A different place depicted from within a different style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dreaming in Darkness is an Emotional Masterpiece June 29, 2011
By Ozma
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is gorgeous! I love everything about Dreaming in Darkness, its depth of emotion is startling. High quality and evocative, Dreaming in Darkness is an emotional epic journey where the writing goes from innocence and light to dark then to light again. The work delivers hope through passion. The poems are exquisite and saturated in emotion, they feel forbidden in unbridled sensuality.

I like the way the book is uniquely divided into four sections, the first section titled, Glimpses of the Sun, begins with innocent love of life, nature and self, with first glimpses into loving another. Nature's Gift, Sarafina, and Earth Shattering Waves went straight to my heart! The section titled, Dreaming in Darkness, begins the extraordinary journey of relationship love and dark obsession. The fragile need is undeniable and immediate in the writing. In the section titled, Love Lust and the Magic of Desperation, the poems are sensuous and forbidding, ultimately spiraling into despair and the loss of losing oneself in another.

I'm picky about poetry and didn't feel this work was "too personal," or depressing at all. It's intense, inspiring and moving as Jessica Kristie takes you straight to the pain through darkness and into light again. This is the first book of poems I've read where I couldn't put it down, feeling like I was on a thrilling ride to my own self discovery. I couldn't let go until the last word and wanted to read it all again. I read the poems aloud to experience their full impact. I will collect all writings from this poet! Dreaming in Darkness would make a beautiful, limited edition hardcover and an audible book version would be wonderful.

These poems are like music from a favorite album where you love every song!
