An extremely well written novel that captures the essence of the ancient Maya, particularly their spiritual nature. This spiritual aspect is brought forward into the 21st century, as the story moves between our current times and periods of the ancient Maya civilizations. It is not only a very engaqing story, but a book with a tremendous amount of information about the Maya, and gives the reader a completely different picture of the Maya than the Mel Gibson movie, Apocolypto

Leonide Martin's book, Dreaming the Maya Fifth Sun, has introduced me to a previously unexplored realm. I have just completed a second reading, absorbing even more of the fascinating details of ancient Mayan beliefs and history. I felt myself relaxing into the spirit of the characters so much that I'm sure I'll be back, again and again. Find a peaceful nook out in nature for the maximum reading pleasure of this book.

This book changed my life!,
This review is from: Dreaming the Maya Fifth Sun (Paperback)
I enjoyed this book so much it has inspired me to take a trip to Mexico to learn more about the Maya and visit some ancient sites. The story moves back and forth between the present and the Mayan past, linking the characters in a 'six degrees of separation' way. Once I met the ancient Maya priestess, Yalucha, I could not put the book down. The book has lots of information on the Maya...but it's the mystery, romance, and plot twists that really got me! I am now reading all the books I can find on the Maya and their calendar. This is a whole new area of knowledge I would never have known without reading this inspiring novel.
