Nice, but not full HD,
By
This review is from: Dreaming Nevada [HD DVD] (HD DVD)
Those looking for a demonstration disc to show off their new 1080p resolution projector or large screen flat panel should look elsewhere. The credits at the end say it was shot in "High Definition 1080 x 720." Unfortunately, 1080 x 720 is not an HD format. They may have meant 1280x720. But in any event, it is not full 1920x1080 resolution, as most HD DVD movies and demo discs are. So this disc will probably look great on a 42" plasma TV, but if you blow it up to 100" or larger, it will look a bit fuzzy compared to other HD DVD materials you may be used to seeing.
Other than the compromise in HD video quality, the disc is a pleasant collection of helicopter views over Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, and of course Las Vegas. It is nicely edited and compiled. I just wish it were full high definition. I would not have purchased it had I known this ahead of time.

Breathtaking....awesome!,

Since I very much enjoyed the "Dreaming Arizona" HD DVD, I looked forward to the follow-up release.
I was not disappointed. Having been to Vegas numerous times (like most of us) I have to say, I've never seen Vegas like you see it in this stunning HD DVD. Some of the night time helicopter aerials are filmed with very unusual camera angles, reminding me of those futuristic tracking shots in Blade Runner. (BTW I noticed in one of the night time aerials that Bellagio was completely dark....never seen the blackout of a casino in Vegas!) Beyond Vegas, the most surprising revelation to me is the Mars-like landscape of the Valley of Fire. I've only been to Red Rock Canyon (20 mins drive from the Vegas Strip). Valley of Fire is about an 90 minute drive from Vegas. The Valley of Fire shots are spectacular, both the helicopter aerials as well as the car POV shots. Now I see why Valley of Fire locations are used a lot for movies and commercials... This DVD also covers Red Rock Canyon and Hoover Dam. And you'll see Lake Las Vegas, which is a weird fake-Italian town with resort hotels and golf courses on the edge of Lake Mead. Worth checking out on your next trip. Overall, I highly recommend this HD DVD!!

Nevada surprise...there is more than Area 54,

This review is from: Dreaming Nevada [HD DVD] (HD DVD)
When it comes to the battle of the HD formats, I'm not sitting on the fence. I own a Toshiba HD DVD player and a Sony Blue Ray player.
The "dreaming Nevada" standard def DVD has been in my collection since it came out in 2005. Now that it's out on HDDVD, I snapped it up (great price). Ask almost anybody, what comes to mind when you think of Nevada, the first thing is Vegas, then you think long and hard and of course you think desert wasteland, Area 54 and maybe Lake Tahoe (not covered in his DVD). Surprise news flash: Southern Nevada has a lot to offer besides Vegas. Stunning landscapes! And there is something to be said about the artificial beauty of Vegas. There is beauty here if you see it through the "candy colored" eyes of Tom Wolfe in his Vegas book in which he elevated Las Vegas architecture of neon kitsch to a genuine art form of the American century. The surround sound music is awesome and the cinematography is gorgeous. Besides the night time sections (the DVD also features daytime drive shots of the Strip), my favorite parts are Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon. The Map Movie shows you how close everything is to Vegas. HD buffs like me who expect great picture quality will not be disappointed. Also, the bonus materials include "Tribute to the Chairman" with two great songs and a singer who sounds just like Frank.

I purchased Dreaming Arizona and I was certainly curious to see Dreaming Nevada. I certainly wasn't disapointed. This title is even more beautiful and full of HD quality images. It is always great to sit back and relax watching flyovers of beautiful landscapes and vegas! I can't wait to go back to vegas baby!
This disc has a few extras on it, but it is really about the beautiful shots and relaxing music. I love putting this disc on my Xbox 360 while i download large game demos. Kinda like an HD screesaver for you TV! Two thumbs up!

Dreaming Nevada [HD DVD]
After watching Dreaming Arizona, I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of this disc. I had it a few months now, and I must say that it is everybit as fantastic, if not more so, than Dreaming Arizona. If you loved that HD-DVD, this one is a no-brainer. The colors "pop" right off the screen, as we are treated to the most fascinating areas of the great state of Nevada. Las Vegas is the area that is most represented, and this HD-DVD shows it at its finest. From the Vegas Strip to Downtown Las Vegas, this HD-DVD is a sight to behold. If you are even remotely interested in what Nevada looks like, or if you have been there before and just want to reminisce, Dreaming Nevada is worth every penny.

After the upgrade I did for "Dreaming Arizona" it was a no-brainer to upgrade my DVD edition of "Dreaming Nevada" as well. And I like this one even better! The audio on this HD DVD is mixed in 5.1 Dolby Digital and the music tracks really benefit. The surround field is very spacious and envelopes you totally. And the hi-def scenery tops it all. I especially like the night shots of Las Vegas. The neon lights stand out vivdly against the pitch black background and this gives you a nice "3D-pop". And for that price you can just add it to regular priced item and save on shipping charges! Highly recommended - 5 stars!

As one image addict unlikely to ever visit Nevada, I feel this must be about the best way to see Las Vegas without the bother of getting there!
Hi-Def is quickly coming to the fore now, and this disc is a fine example of just how visually stunning it can be. It should be added in passing that it is also a fine Requiem for the now defunct HD-DVD medium, probably the better and more user-friendly of the competing HD formats. Grab a copy while you can!

Living in the areas covered by this video, I bought it since I've yet to visit any of the scenic spots nearby, and after being here 7 years I doubt I ever will see these places. I thought "Dreaming Nevada" would be a good substitute. The photography was beautiful, a bit heavily saturated with color, but impressive. Running time is listed in Amazon's description as 52 minutes, somehow I have to find about 32 of those minutes as I seemed to only get about 20 minutes of play out of it. It's a nice DVD overall, but a bit expensive, I think, for what it delivered, appealing to a very limited audience.

Dreaming Nevada - Not much to dream about!,

Some great footage on this DVD, but unfortunately you are just getting into the beauty of Nevada when the DVD finishes. Much too brief IMHO.
I purchased this at a reduced price, wouldn't have been very happy if I had paid full retail.

Les couleurs ne sont pas toujours naturelles et le DVD est trop court; 20 minutes de vidéo seulement!
