From the Author

My love of 'everything Sicilian' began when I went to live with my Sicilian grandmother in the small town of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania at the age of nine. I loved to sit by her side and listen to her tell her stories of the old country. Some of the stories were of hardship, as she grew up very poor, but the stories she told of her and my grandfather's courtship were sweet and poignant and some were absolutely hilarious. I made a promise to my grandmother that one day I would visit Sicily, to see where these wonderful stories took place. When I turned 42 in January of 1996, my husband Eric and I talked of where we would like to go on vacation. We hadn't been on a real vacation in five years, and we decided we would go somewhere special. He asked me where I had always wanted to go and immediately I said Italy -- everyone wants to someday go to Italy, right? Many years had gone by since I'd even thought of my promise to my grandmother that I would someday visit Sicily. "But you know where I would really like to go?" I whispered excitedly. "Sicily."And so it came to pass that we took our first Sicilian roundabout in March of 1996. It was an enchanting trip to a truly magical island. I think Goethe said it best when he wrote: "To have seen Italy without having seen Sicily is not have seen Italy at all. For Sicily is the key to everything."Sicily certainly held the key to everything that I loved: breathtaking scenery, ancient history, old customs, exhilarating art and food that makes you want to cry it's so good. I loved Sicily so much that I wrote a book about our adventure, a loving tribute to this beautiful island. It is called Dreaming of Sicily. I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

I am an avid traveller and love travel memoirs. I thought this book read a bit too much like a school composition. While the author was earnest, the story seemed underdeveloped.

Hi,
I actually read you book about six months ago and really enjoyed it. I have yet to visit Sicily but you have put a tantalizing palette out there for me-lovely. I think you should write more on Sicily actually!
Thanks, and I keep your book on my bedside locker- a portent of things to come.

I just finished reading your delightful book, great job! It brought me back to my childhood and to my visit to Sicily, six years ago. It is so well written and it truly touched my soul.
