Dance pop: Usually you get about 2 great hit tracks and a whole bunch of boring filler you never listen to. Not the case with this one. Sure, you'll know the big hits "Everybody Everybody", "I Don't Know Anybody Else" and "Strike it Up", but there's some others worth your time here, too.

HIGHLIGHTS:
"Everybody Everybody" appears in the Top 40 single edit here, along with Martha Wash's orgasmic wailing opening for "I Don't Know Anybody Else". "Fantasy", a 'go after your dreams' number, is surprisingly solid and probably could have been a single. The Brand New Heavies' Loleatta Holloway guests on the sizzling "Ride on Time". The midtempo throb of "Hold On"'s "Co-caine..co-caine...to go straight to your brain" will also embed itself. Final single "Strike it Up" is another good one with Wash tearing it up on vocals and a rap that doesn't sound horribly out of date (unlike, say "Ya Kid K" does these days...)

LOW POINTS:
The title track is a dull instrumental...you'll never really turn to it on purpose. "Open Your Eyes" is also a bit of a snoozer. "Ghost Box" sounds like a Kenny G outtake. It's completely out of place here and I'm not sure what producer "Groove Groove Melody" was thinking other than possibly "Gee..I've only got 8 songs so far. I better put at least ONE more on there or people will think it's a rip-off."

BOTTOM LINE:
Even with the short run time, it's one of the better dance CDs I've heard and I still pull it out from time to time. For a genre with usually little longevity, this one continues to sound pretty good. Recommended.

3 1/2 stars

One of the strongest and best known dance albums of the early 90s, thanks, in largely unheralded part, to the windstorm-inducing singing of Martha Wash, who blows things away with the huge club hits "Strike It Up", "Everybody Everybody", and "I Don't Know Anybody Else." There's also some guesting here by Salsoul disco diva Loleatta Holloway. And when you and your lover get tired of dancing your butts off to the above mentioned hits, head off to a little place where the two of you can be alone, and chill to the soothing sounds of the sublime instrumental "Ghost Box."

I sure did miss this CD. It was one of my favourites back in the good ole' days. It is excellent front to back. If this is your style of music then I would definately recommend this. You won't be disappointed with your choice.

Excellent dance classic. Songs bring back lots of memories for me of my wild days. Music is well composed and shows why it was a top seller.

Great vocals (if you're interested, read the story of how the vocalist got stiffed on credits), big dance songs ("Everybody, Everybody", "I Don't Know Anybody Else", "Ride On Time", "Strike It Up"), some really good tunes, and a couple of downbeat ethereal soundscapes.

Dreamland is a classic album for fans of dance music and is still a great listen after all these years. It is a perfect example of an album compared to a set of songs. You'll see other reviews saying some songs don't fit but to me it's about letting you rest before the next big lift. The big songs "Everybody, Everybody" and "IDKAE" lead the album then both "Ride on Time" and "Strike It Up" are preceeded by very mellow loungy tracks.

Dope club beatz from the Italian songwriting/musician trio called "Black Box", with (some said transsexual?) model Katrin Quinol lip synching to Martha Wash on MAJOR worldwide dance hits like "Everybody Everybody", "Strike It Up" "I Don't Know Anybody Else" and "Ride On Time" (their biggest hit)!! This album dominated the charts for months/years in the late 80's/early 90's and even now it sounds fresh!! Only downside is the slower jams which are basically filler.. Unbelievable to listen to overall though even to this day.. God I miss those acid house days!! P.S. Check out the many many remixes of all their major hits on cd/vinyl!! They will blow your mind!!

This CD has strong memories for me because it was the first one that I ever owned. It is a hallmark dance cd that received heavy club play for songs like Everybody,Everybody and Strike It Up. Other great songs include Ride On Time and I Don't Know Anybody Else. The only song that doesn't make sense is Ghost Box, which is a much slower tempo than the rest. If you're looking to transport back into the early 90's dance phase this cd is a must have.
