robert miles is a great music maker but this album does not reflect this talent.Too many of his beats are the same all similar to children. For me red zone is the best song on the album.if your lookin for something more diverse check his following album '23am'which is of a far higher quality

I was looking everywhere for the "ever after" trailer 'tell me a fable'. In buying the ever after sound track I was highly disappointed in finding only the orchestrated back ground music. I was so glad I was pointed in the right direction. I was thinking that "fable" was going to be the only good track on the CD, but I was wrong. The entire CD beautifully mixed with the music and the emotional driven sounds of Robert Miles is a MUST HEAR. You can just close your eyes and let his music do the story-telling for you. It has a great mix of techno beats with the soft edge of symphony. Its one of my favorites now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection, emotion, beauty- what music should be., September 3, 2000

Sam McCarthy (New Haven, CT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dreamland (Audio CD)
First of all, Dreamland, like 23 AM, is not trance. It does have the breakdowns, bass-driven beats, and melodies that are characteristic of trance, but it is definitely inaccurate to classify it as such. However, what can this musical beauty be classified as? But this should not deter anyone from purchasing this CD. As a trance and house lover, I more than encourage anyone to buy this CD. Honestly, anyone I have ever played Dreamland for has loved it. No one had complaints about it, except when it was played too much.

The music is like an emotional rollercoaster. "Children" sets an uplifting, inspiring tone, then "Fable" (although I prefer the non-vocal version) carries you off into musical bliss. The next few tracks are more mellow but still use the piano and bass beats to create a chill-out mood. Then, the "Princess of Light" begins and what follows is more like magic than music. See for yourself. The CD winds down with a more mellow remix of "Children" and "The Red Zone", which is, along with the last two tracks (I like to think of them as one) on Tranceport3, the best track to end a CD I have ever heard.

Robert Miles takes you into a Dreamland with this CD, and I promise you that you will enjoy it, not once or twice, but many times. Also, play this CD like a trance CD for the first time by listening to the whole CD at once. I GURANTEE that you will embrace and love the musical journey Robert Miles guides you through. In other words, buy it right now.

5.0 out of 5 stars CLOSE YOUR EYES AND EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC OF DREAMLAND, July 9, 2002
This review is from: Dreamland (Audio CD)
GOD, THIS IS GOOD!

It is one of the BEST cds I have EVER come across in my life! I implore you to buy it, you won't be disappointed. DREAMLAND is MAGICAL. I ordered this with two other cds (different artists.) I have tried to listen to the other two cds but after 1-2 songs, keep coming back to this. I believe it is safe to say I am addicted to DREAMLAND and loving every minute of it!

When I first put Dreamland in my stereo, I was very sleepy. I laid down, thinking I could fall asleep to it but it was like I was dreaming awake. Instantly, pleasant sensations tickled my brain and, with my eyes closed, I saw and FELT (yes, felt) swirling circles of bright colors dancing in my spirit, pulsating to the beats.

Like I said, MAGICAL!

As I continue to listen, I feel linked to this music. It is a part of me now. Isn't that what great music is supposed to do? STICK with you and never leave? NEVER LEAVE. Make you smile and dance to it and LET GO... I have a friend that has said that music is his religion. I totally understand now what he meant.

I give this the absolute HIGHEST recommendation I have EVER given yet. If I were rich, this would be one of five cds I would buy to share with EVERYONE special I came across--not just friends. DREAMLAND is a Gift to me that I will NEVER part with. I wish you to EXPERIENCE it too!

Soar!

5.0 out of 5 stars JUST HAD TO WRITE THIS, July 29, 2004
This review is from: Dreamland (Audio CD)
OK, so after reading many great reviews of this album, I could not believe how many people also denounced this album, seemingly oblivious to it's history and influence on world music.

I was lucky enough to have this CD sent to me back in 1995 when my then-g/f was living in France (thanks Steph!). She kept saying weird things like ''inspired by X-Files'' and ''trance'' and ''new direction of music''. It didn't occur to me until 2000 how much truth was in what she said.

Robert Miles single-handedly shot electronic/techno/trance into the world spotlight with this album. As soon as I received this album and put it in my player, it was stuck there for a month solid. I didn't get into raving until 1999, and sure enough, he continued to remind me of where all the new stuff had originated. There are moments/things in life that define your life... this CD was one of them.

I could say many great things about Robert, about his music, but to me, the greatest compliment paid to him has been the fact that I have bought his CD 5 times. Why? Because, without fail, a friend will hear this CD, want to borrow it, and I never see it again. I never say anything about it though, because I know that my friends have, in turn, become sucked into Robert's ability to paint beautiful images, thoughts, and emotions onto the fabric of our limitless imaginations.

So, even if this is the only post I ever make to Amazon.com, let me say this: get this album, treasure it, and keep an eye on it!!!

CHEERS,

SFuture25

5.0 out of 5 stars The pinnacle of Trance!, March 12, 2000
By
Gregory S. Billingham (Lyndon State College, Lyndonville, VT., United States of America) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dreamland (Audio CD)
When I first heard Robert Miles', "Children" on the radio, I immediately fell in love with his music and the genre overall. Robert Miles' music started me on a craze for Trance music, and I shall forever be hooked. I now have both his albums, "23Am" and "Dreamland", and I highly recommend both of them. Dreamland is an emotional and spiritual journey through the realm of dream and fantasy. The continuous beats throughout the album keep your body moving, but at the same time take your mind into another dimension, as if you are asleep, dreaming. For me, the best tracks are "Children (Dream Version)" and "Fable (Message Version)". I was astounded to hear "Fable" on the preview for one of my fav films of all time, "Ever After: A Cinderella Story", but was disappointed when I found out that it was not included on the soundtrack. Nevertheless, the music in that soundtrack is excellent. Anyhow, if you want a way to unwind and relax, then check out Robert Miles...you will not be disappointed whatsoever!

5.0 out of 5 stars A throbbing heart flight into the night, October 18, 2002

AWESOME album.

PHASE ONE OF OWNERSHIP: I couldn't do anything but dance to it. There I was, dancing alone in my apartment to Dreamland, unable to stop myself (and feeling a little silly, but still unable to control the solo rave going on in my livingroom).

PHASE TWO (short): The similarity of many of the tracks irked me a TINY bit.

PHASE THREE (longest and best): This album has grown on me and has taken its place as one of my favorite albums, and I don't say that lightly.

Deep throbbing beats, ethereal vocals, haunting piano, ambient electronics. This music runs deep and gets into your bones, especially when played loud. This is a great album to dance to as well as chill to. It's great seduction music, great for contemplation, great in the background as you're painting your masterpiece, and it makes for an awesome drive (be careful of speeding). Well worth the small investment. Thank you Robert Miles!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the finest CDs I have ever heard, April 6, 2001

the enlightened one (under the tree of enlightenment) - See all my reviews

Robert Miles takes you on a spiritual journey far away from existence with this musical masterpiece. Each track is beautifully written and perfectly subtle. "Dreamland" is a breathless experience. The first track, "Children," is the greatest intro I have ever heard on an album. Miles combines several different styles of Electronic music comparable to the likes of DJ Sakin & Friends, early Orbital, and Ayla. There's a great deal of Techno, Trance, and Ambient influences laced together; a style appropriately named Dreamdance.

I highly recommend listening to "Dreamland" while going to sleep or on early mornings. Just close your eyes and let the music take you through a mental trip. It'll change your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most powerful music you will ever hear..., January 9, 2000
This review is from: Dreamland (Audio CD)
I applaud Robert Miles for creating music with the strongest emotional overtones that I have ever heard. His music evokes powerful emotional reactions of joy, sorrow, and fear all mixed into one. Nothing is comparable to the feeling this music gives you...it is unrelenting. In particular, I enjoy Fable, Children, and One & One. This CD is a must buy for any music fan, whether you typically enjoy electronic music or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome Into Dreamland, June 16, 2002
By
This review is from: Dreamland (Audio CD)
Robert Mile's DREAMLAND is probably my favorite trance album to date. It's dreamy soundscape has a much softer tone to it than most other artists in this genre which makes for a nice release from all the happy dance music flooding mainstream radio today. Don't misconstrue what I'm saying, though. Dirty Vegas, Kylie Minogue and Paulina Rubio are among the best artists to emerge in 2002 but I've recently needed a break from all these sappy love songs and wannabe dance anthems, so I turned (with little surprise) to the old but never out-dated DREAMLAND by Robert Miles. 23 AM (which is a little more new-agey than this) is another amazing album by Robert Miles but I think that DREAMLAND still remains my favorite. I might buy ORGANIK someday but from what I've heard it's not too great, which is hard for me to fathom because everything I've ever heard from Robert Miles is simply amazing... DREAMLAND is a fine mixture of smooth electronica, new age and trance.

My favorite songs include "In My Dreams", "Children (Dream Version)", "Fable (Messsage Version)", and "One And One", which both feature the gorgeous vocals of Maria Nayler who deeply contributes to the album's magical and very surreal atmosphere which is sheer heaven to the senses. So do the world a favor by purchasing this masterpiece of an album which is probably already considered a classic to trance fans that know a gem when they hear it.

This is highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best dance CDs I,ve ever owned, March 31, 2002
This review is from: Dreamland (Audio CD)
Most dance DJ music these days tends to be too happy, cheerful and sugary for my taste a lot of times. Songs like Barbie Girl or Happy Boys by Aqua really are shallow and unmoving for me despite their fast beats.

Robert Miles however is one of the most innovative techno musicans today.

Unlike most dance music these days with annoying beats and sunny sounds, Dreamland is dark, brooding and in contrast to most dance music this album is deep and emotional. This is great thunderstorm music. I remember when I was watching a thunderstorm approaching while listening to this CD and I was in total bliss.

I first was introduced to Robert Miles music when I bought Ultimate Dance Party 1997 with the track 'Children' on it. It captured my attention with it's stormy atmosphere after the sunniness of the previous tracks. Since then I have gotten all three of his albums. I listen to the parent album version more because of it's much greater length.

On con to this CD though is that most of the songs are repetitive with similar beginnings with the piano and acoustic guitar intro and then the Whomp...whomp...whomp...whomp beats over and over again. This album could have used more variety.

Some songs though stand out though even though I love the whole CD. There are One and One and Landscape. One and one is one of my favorites off Dreamland. I love the line "the sun doesnt always shine, the sky isn't always blue". The song begins as a minor note and morphs into a major note at the 3 minute mark. This is probably the brightest song on the album but still dark compared to almost any other dance album. Real McCoys debut Another Night has a similar mood to this CD although poppier. The other is Lanscape with a heavy beat and a very moody atmosphere. In My Dreams is a very brooding song with echoing beats and and very big ambient atmosphere like an approaching storm.

The original version of Children(Track 10) I tend to enjoy with it's echoing acoustic guitars and lighter flatter beat more than the club version.

Despite the cons of this CD, it still gets a five star mainly because of it's sheer magic, and emotional charachteristic unlike so much of todays annoying dance music. It's far above anything most dance artists could do.

I say go and get this CD.

It only gets better with the incredible follow-up 23 am, my favorite trance CD to date.
