5.0 out of 5 stars Syrupy sweet and wonderful!, June 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Dreamland: A Lullaby (Hardcover)
Well, I am a California single mom and I loved this book. Maybe it's because I just went to a Mary Chapin Carpenter concert last night. Who knows! The book is very, very sweet but isn't that what makes for sweet dreams? I love to read to my daughter at bedtime and she likes to hear kind and gentle words before she goes to dreamland. She often says, "Mommy, I can't go to sleep without a lullaby." I look for books that have a loving and soothing message for bedtime. This is how I like to send my daugther off to sleep. This book is a definate winner to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sweet sweet book that launches sweet sweet dreams, September 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Dreamland: A Lullaby (Hardcover)
My daughter and I love this book and if it's too syrupy sweet, then so are we. The illustrations are wonderful and my daughter loves to talk about the babies who sleep in flowers. One word of caution -- the Daddy in the book has a beard. My daughter, unaccustomed to facial hair and therefore terrified of it, took a while to warm up to this bearded man. But now, she loves him and no longer screams and runs when she sees bearded men in public. So this Daddy is somewhat of a beard ambassador. We love this book. Buy it and read it till the pages fall out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dreamland: Nana's Review of a Favorite Book!, June 28, 2001
By
This review is from: Dreamland: A Lullaby (Hardcover)
I have purchased four copies of this book, one for myself and one for each of my children who have children. I was immediately drawn to the soft colors, peaceful pictures in gentle tones, and the rhythm of the words. The children (and their animal friends) pictured going off to dreamland are from different countries. Going to sleep is pictured and told as a gentle, peaceful, safe and enjoyable experience. The moon and milky way are wonderfully illustrated. I just want to go there! I hope this book comes back in print because I have more children with children and friends with children and it is a perfect gift. The text is in gentle words and wonderful rhythm. The illustrations almost bring tears to my eyes. My grandchildren never tire of having me read this book. I never tire of reading it to them.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE! MAKES YOUR CHILD WANT TO GO TO SLEEP! YES!, June 18, 2000
This review is from: Dreamland: A Lullaby (Hardcover)
This book is truly one-of-a-kind; it is the stuff "dreams are made of!" It makes me smile and yawn reading to my daughter most every night! She actually looks forward to going to sleep as much as I do!

It is a child's Fantasy book. It truly entices your child to want to go to sleep in such a beautiful way! The premise of the story is when you fall asleep you enter into a dreamland--a magical place where you can fly in the clouds, play with other boys and girls from around the world, ride on the moon and stars and into the arms of.... ( it's a surprise).

Another thing that makes this book so special is that it comes in your choice of pink or blue lettering. So if you want to give it as a baby gift to someone you have a more personalized gift.

I highly recommend this book to every one! Every child loves beautiful pictures like these! Julia Noonan, the illustrator, is remarkable! Hats off to you Julia! Also of course, thanks to Mary C. Carpenter for sending children "to a really good place: Dreamland...wide open for possibilities."

5.0 out of 5 stars Agentle Call to Sleep, June 16, 2000
This review is from: Dreamland: A Lullaby (Hardcover)
I picked up this book at a recent concert. Based on a Mary Chapin Carpenter song, Dreamland: A Lullaby is the perfect book to read a little on to sleep. The gentle cadences of the words are soothing and the storyline sweet. It is a perfect book to give to a new mother.

5.0 out of 5 stars A toddler's dream! Librarians and Parents agree, February 27, 2006
By
This review is from: Dreamland: A Lullaby (Hardcover)
The professional reviewers above have obviously never worked with children. Listen to the parent reviews! I use this book with the recording of the song off the CD "Til their eyes shine" in my toddler bedtime storytime. As soon as the children hear the first notes, and see me pick up the book they instantly snuggle down with parents and listen transfixed. Parents all fight over the copies I have available to check out, and they all rave about the experience of reading/singing it to their children at bedtime. This is a MUST HAVE for parents of young children. Develop the habit of reading it to your baby, and continue as he/she gets older. They will feel loved and nurrtured.

4.0 out of 5 stars a wonderfully sweet book, lovely artwork, May 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Dreamland: A Lullaby (Hardcover)
This sweet book brought tears to my eyes. One review described the book as "syrupy sweet". Well, sweet it is. The gentle words take me back to simpler times when a child did not have to have action figures destroying the world (and each other) to be entertained; for that matter, neither did their parents! In a world where we've all become somewhat desensitized to life's simplest pleasures, Ms. Carpenter reminds us all that there is a place where even the most jaded can go to smile and be at peace. Bravo. I would love to get my hands on the music that goes with this book. I bought the book as a first-baby gift, and yes, the mother-to-be is blond and is having a girl. The illustrations could be about her little girl. Call me syrupy-sweet, too. I'm a Southern woman, don't hold it against me. lol
