My favorite jazz group,
By edwin brown (shreveport, la USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dreamland (Audio CD)
This is an excellent album. There are many different styles of jazz present here so any jazz fan would find something to get attached to. This is the first jazz group that was refered to me and I have been listening to them every since. This album in particular is my favorite. I never thought that music could bring tears to my eyes until I heard the title cut, Dreamland. I is dedicated to one of the musicians' baby. I loved the song so much that I learned to play it on the piano. Every time I get to the section of the bass solo, I get misty eyed. The piano arrangement is beautiful. I highly recommend.

Another very good yellowjackets cd. Smooth and relaxing, the music is great to put on as a background. Bobby Mcferrin adds a nice sound. Definitely 5.Later -H.D.S.

Creamy smooth funk/jazz,
By Emil Espe (Norway) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dreamland (Audio CD)
This is one of the most 'creamy' albums I've ever heard. Listen to track #1! Fly on the little, yellow cloud and hum along. Dream along with Bobby McFerrins super-soft singin' on #3. Wow. Just, wow. If you are to buy ONE of the Yellowjackets' albums, buy this. No hesitation.

Dreaming,
This review is from: Dreamland (Audio CD)
Appropriately titled CD. The music is probably some of the Yellowjacket's most mellow, melodic tunes. Very good long drive music for letting your mind wander as you endure hours of boring scenery. The music will pick you up and take you to places you've never been to before and make even the bleakest surroundings seem bright.Enjoy. Peace Out.

The sensitivity of these musicians shows in their writing.,

The sensitivity of these musicians shows in the loving tributes that Haslip and Ferrante have composed to the females in their lives, both past and present. They are incredible musicians! All of them. Most fans are male; but, there are a whole bunch of us females out here who love this side of them. Have all their albums and been a fan since the band formed.

Listen while you dream,
By Olukayode Balogun (Leeds, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dreamland (Audio CD)
The drums and horns were slightly muted and all the edges softened for this 1995 trip to the land of dreams. Yellowjackets couldn't put a foot wrong during the 90s - not where I was concerned anyway - and it felt like the band was at the height of its powers. The songs live up to the title of the album and with no sudden bursts of sound, are all pretty relaxing while remaining, as always, well-put together and interesting. The jewel in the crown though is "Summer Song" with an award-winning vocal performance by Bobby McFerrin. It is absolutely beautiful. Later that same year, keyboardist Russell Ferrante went on to co-produce McFerrin's "Bang!Zoom" album and naturally, the band all played on that too. In my view, both albums are simply must-haves.
