Book Description

If you've ever wondered what it's like to be told that your unborn child has Down syndrome....if you've ever wondered what it's like to be an extended stay NICU mom...if you've ever wondered what it's like to hand your baby over for heart surgery...if you've ever wondered how to cope when your dreams are replaced with something you didn't want...read this book for a first hand account of the scariest time in a first time mom's life. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, I could barely put it down. January 21, 2012

My mom got this book as a gift for me and I really enjoyed it. I like how candid the author was about her feelings and thoughts. I have one child and another one on the way. Perhaps my pregnancy hormones contributed to how emotional I got about this book, but it was so heart touching. It really made me think about how to talk to my kids about children with special needs. I want to make sure they are accepting, understanding and know that they are people too with great worth. We have a special needs child in our extended family and this was very helpful. I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating and Honest January 30, 2012

I loved reading the e-book- it's an amazing story. Instead of glossing over heartache and sugar coating her real feelings about it all, Deanna essentially shared a diary of her experiences with us all. She wonders if she'll love Addison. She is broken after hearing the diagnosis. She struggles, she cries, and she begins a long journey. Throughout the pages, you feel Deanna's heart melt for that beautiful little girl, and you experience the ups and downs with her.

Deanna gracious let me read a copy of the book (it's downloadable on computers too-you don't have to have an e-reader), and I'm so glad she did. The best writer is one who can make the reader feel, and she did just that. I lost count of how many times I teared up, as well as how many times I was smiling. Maybe it isn't possible to feel exactly how a parent sees there child- but I found myself feeling as if I were sitting in the NICU beside them, listening to the beeps of the monitors and watching their faces. I celebrated their triumphs and worried when things were unstable.

I don't really write book reviews, but it was such an honor to have that glimpse into their story. I really recommend you give this a read. Step into someone else's shoes, be refreshed by their honesty, and be encouraged by their journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! Amazing Book! January 20, 2012
By LC

I believe that this book should be a required read for any new mom who has been told that their unborn child has Down syndrome. Deanna does an excellent job of conveying all of her feelings, from brutally honest, to downright painful to read. Your heart just wants to jump through the book and give her a huge hug. I have not experienced this personally, but can only imagine that her feelings are quite similar to other women going through the same thing. She holds nothing back and the reader finds themselves engaged and turning each page to find out how she comes to terms with the diagnosis. Add this to the required reading list!
