Book Description

June 1, 1998
It was a virgin land of vast horizons...a land of dreams and dust and blood, where men sought glory and hope died hard. But for Jamie Ian MacCallister, who'd grown to manhood among Indians and fought at the Alamo, war and wilderness were home...and survival was a way of life. From the battlegrounds of Texas to the Colorado Rockies and the goldfields of California, Jamie MacCallister was one of a handful of daring pioneers blazing trails in the American West. Joining famed frontiersman Kit Carson on the first U.S. Army expedition from Missouri to the wide Pacific, he forged a future in a dawning era of greatness and greed that would stain the pages of history with blood - and make men like MacCallister into legends.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great tale of the American West!!, June 29, 1999
By
This review is from: Dreams of Eagles (Paperback)
This book was the first mountain man book I have ever read besides Give Your Heart to the Hawks by Win Blevins. The hero of the book is Jamie Ian McCallister, and he settles a small valley, known as McCallister's Valley, and, throoughout the book, the sittlement is attack by various outlaws, and Jamie has to go on the warpath to get back at them. The tale also includes McCallister's sons who also do the same thing. I loved this book and I think it is a great book to start out on if you are reading westerns!

5.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable book, July 6, 2011

Moose (Chicago Suburbs, IL) - See all my reviews
Enjoyed book 1 which was Eyes of the Eagle. Book 2, Dream of the Eagles was a gripping continous saga of the MacCallister family. Jaimie reunites with his Grandfather in this book. There is a Lot of killing an bloodshed, but not to very graphiclly written. Mid point in the book Jamie aquires some newer 6 shot Colt revolvers so he's able to shoot & kill qicker than before. Some of the characters branch out across the country. Two of the MscCallister kids find success overseas singing. The light skinned negro's that are brother - sister take off for the east and venture to Virginia, the sister marries into a rich familiy and their saga adds a bit of comedy to the book as the brother comes out as homosexual and is interested in his new brother in law.
