5.0 out of 5 stars Dreams of Flight lands on DVD!, June 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Dreams Of Flight: Air (DVD)
I have this series on VHS and it has been a favorite of my family. Now all three tapes are on one DVD, and the other two volumes will come out as the "Space" DVD in a few months. From Divinci to the Wright Brothers and Otto Lilianthal, to The Moon and Beyond. Meet test pilots and astronauts who explain the Dream of traveling to other worlds beyond our own. A very imformative series for all ages. A must buy for the Aviation buff or pilot in the family.

2.0 out of 5 stars Should be titled America's Dreams of Flight, May 12, 2005
This review is from: Dreams Of Flight: Air (DVD)
As an American with a long interest in and good knowledge of aviation history I was quite disappointed in this video. While the technical quality of the material is high, it is quite uneven in quality of content and quite biased toward American flight development. Once you get past the first pioneers of aviation history, it barely mentions the significant contributions of anyone other than American pilots and aircraft. For example, the creation of the first jet engines by Germany's Hans Von Ohain and Britain's Frank Whittle are barely mentioned, then time is wasted on a history of the first American military jet, the P-59 Aircomet, a wholly unremarkable aircraft that never saw service due to it's poor performance. This should have been a much more even handed history of flight and more accurate, e.g., the German Messerschmidt ME-163 was the first rocket powered airplane flown in the United States, not the American Bell X-1. Things are more balanced regarding space exploration development, but so much more could have been covered in the three hours of video included in this work. A waste of money for anyone interested in aviation history.
