5.0 out of 5 stars I hear Granfather Sun
This CD reflects the way flute music should be played. Voice, drum, flute. I first heard about this artist through a wonderful flute maker by the name of Danny Biggay. Recently, I have bought several flute CD's. They all overshadow the flute. Not so in this CD. Like someone else, this CD takes me back to my native past. I can hear grandfather talking to me as I...

3.0 out of 5 stars I like it better than White Buffalo
My first Robert Tree Cody album was a collaboration with Hovia Edwards, "Reflections", that was great so I decided to get "White Buffalo" based on that and the favorable reviews here at Amazon. White Buffalo had too much synthesizer stuff in it for my tastes, "Grandfather " is almost entirely cedar flute with just a little drum work(on #11)
6 out of 11 selections...

Absolutely the best Native Indian song in my collection. I listen to this every day for years and going on strong. Robert Tree Cody is a true spiritual messenger. This is a MUST have CD if you are into Native Indian Spiritualism.

If this CD were a record, I would have it worn out by now. If you are Native, this music carries the Spirit. If you are not Native, listen to melodious flute and wonderful voice uncomprimised by gimics of electronics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tree Cody enables you to spiritually revisit paradise lost., October 16, 1999
This review is from: Dreams From The Grandfather (Audio CD)
When the earth was fresh, clean, pure, real, and alive. A time long past, but still able to be imagined with those rare finds like Tree Cody. These songs on this CD take you on one life experience after another. From begining to end, I feel as if I have lived a thousand years in a thousand different places, and felt every emotion one may feel. If music can trully engage the spirit, this is that music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps Cody's best, one of the best of Native American genre for sure, July 25, 2011

This CD is right up there with Carlos Nakai as in Desert Dance. Except for track 2 of this CD (2. Kokopelli Wandering Song (World)) all of the songs are very meaningful and powerful. You can use this music for heavy meditation and visioning. The style is genuine and not cooked up just to make a CD. This is the real deal.

"Dreams from the Grandfather," by Robert Tree Cody, would be a wonderful addition to the library of anyone who appreciates Native American music. I have many Native American CD's, and this one instantly became one of my favorites. It is beautiful, peaceful, and moving music, utilizing both the Native American flute and Mr. Cody's deep, resonant voice. It can transport you to a feeling of another place and time, and easily holds it's own ground against the likes of R. Carlos Nakai. I would recommend it to anyone. You won't regret your purchase, and, like me, you'll probably be looking for more of Cody's music.

6 out of 11 selections have some chanting or singing accompanying the music, it didn't sound like words but vocalizations to me on most of them. #8 Lakota Lullaby did seem worded and #11 Stomp Dance had even more of a word rather than chant sound. I like an authentic sounding American Indian music album but this one is at a low end for me, Hovia Edwards is better, more life to her music maybe.
