Useful read, but one-sided and not scientifically compelling,
This review is from: Dreams: Hearing the Voice of God (Paperback)
This is a good book to read, just to get a different perspective on dreams and dreaming (as previous reviewer mentioned). It is a religion- based (namely, Christian religion) point of view... and you can guess for yourselves, which one it would be. I liked this book, nonetheless, because being interested in the subject, I opened up my mind to every kind of perspective. But I gave it 4 stars, instead of 5, because, at times, it simply gets boring.

How anybody can review a book without reading is beyond this writer. "Dreams" by Kallmyer is an ***EXCELLENT*** book, if you can handle opinions that you may not share. Anyone really interested in learning about dreams should begin by reading the many different perspectives on the literary landscape and drawing their own conclusions. Kallmyer shares a lot of factual, scientific information that everyone might agree with. He does refute the efficacy of some popular fads such as dream dictionaries, dream pillows, etc. This is a bold position which is likely to offend some people. I also encourage potential readers NOT to let the word "fundamentalist" scare you off. Some people throw this word around like judges at the Salem "witch" trials threw that word around.

Kallmyer discusses dreams from a perspective not found in any of the other published books about dreams. He warns readers that the dreamscape is sought after by malevolent forces. To wit, not all dreams are good. In fact, heeding counterfeit dreams is something we desperately need to safeguard ourselves against. A MUST read for anybody interested in dreams and dreaming.

First, I didn't read the book, but a quick scan told me this was not the kind of book I was looking for. (This is one of the pitfalls of bookshopping online -- you can't browse a bit. I wish all online book descriptions came with excerpts that could give a flavor of the book itself.) This book is an examination of dreams from a fundamentalist Christian point of view, e.g., "all dreams come from God, Satan or the flesh". The first step in her program for understanding your dreams is "1. A life grounded in the Lord." This may be just the perspective some people are looking for in a book about dreams and spirituality, but not me. I put 3 stars for a neutral rating since I haven't read the book, but I wanted to give a caveat to other folks interested in dreams and spirituality that this book may not be what they think at first. One more quote should explain the difference: "[The New Age] Movement has come to be recognized as a very potent force on the contemporary landscape and is adroitly used to expand the Kingdom of Darkness."
