5.0 out of 5 stars More than a "dream"..., April 28, 2002

This review is from: Video Dreams (Audio CD)
Although some of the songs on this CD can leave you in a dreamy mood, the wide variety of styles keeps you on your toes and singing away throughout.

Mark's voice is as rich, strong and versatile as ever . The musicians and background vocals are all very strong, giving all the songs a well-rounded, solid and exciting feel -- no matter what their style. And some of that guitar work -- wow!

There are tracks on this CD to get you to think -- from "Ambush" , with a native American perspective, to "Club Dead", which is actually a good reminder on the beauty of life. There are tracks in a romantic vein ("Rouge on Blue" "Release my heart") There are songs with social comment ("Cold" and "Old Soldier's Home"). And there's a lot of good ol' get-down rock'n'roll!!

Mark's versatility as a singer and writer (6 of the tracks were written or co-written by Mark) shine through on this album. There is enough here for the heart of 14-year old teenager, stuck in a 40-something body, to go pit-a-pat (check out the opening of "Rouge on Blue" or the wistfulness of the title song "Video Dreams") but also a lot for a music lover to get up and moving!

If you are expecting a continuation of Mark's previous solo efforts, which were great in their own right, ("Arizona", "Silver Bird", "You've Got a Friend"), you'll be in for a surprise with this musical departure.

Every track has it's own unique "catch" . My only criticism would be is that there is no guidance on how to get some of the tunes "unstuck" from your head. "Old Soldier's Home" and "Video Dreams" seem to come with me (and other family members) everywhere.

I would strongly recommend you add this to your collection, a.s.a.p.!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Remarkable Album, May 7, 2002

This review is from: Video Dreams (Audio CD)
One would think, upon listening to this album, that Mark Lindsay had been actively recording since his days with PR&R. In actuality, it is his first release since the Seventies. Yet, it sounds so current & contemporary. Brilliantly executed from start to finish, the album is brimming with well thought out arrangements & superb vocals. There's no filler here. And one track in particular stands out. "Broken Radio" has an absolutely exquisite arrangement & a flawless vocal. Perfection.....One couldn't ask for more. Kudos to Lindsay.
