5.0 out of 5 stars 21st Century blues
Nublues are a band from Colchester, England. Led by virtuoso guitarist Ramon Goose they take Mississippi blues into the 21st century. Mixing hip-hop and rap beats and loops to the music they always stay true to their blues roots. Mixing slide and acoustic they create an amazing sound. One of the most exciting new talents around. I had the pleasure of seeing them live...

2.0 out of 5 stars Blind Lemon MC > Painfully Contrived
I love Blues as well as modern music, prog, jazz, etc. I had high hopes for this. Alas, after several spins I just can't get excited about it at all.

I'm not exactly a blues purist. In fact I have little patience for blues elitism. It is 2006 after all. Like any great art form the blues needs to evolve or die. So does hip hop for that matter...

They are touring Texas in 2005. Check them out!

Blending Delta blues cliches with contemporary groove and hip hop cliches - it falls totally flat. Too self conscious, it tries way to hard to be something it isn't... Interesting. In fact, after several listens I came to realize that the concept isn't interesting at all. It could have been if it had more edge (a lot more). Every time I hear a turntable scratch it sounds almost like a parody. Could be an SNL skit.

Doesn't totally suck. "Conversation Breakdown" is engaging and well textured. It succeeds because it's a natural sounding "modern" song with a hint of honesty and minimal posturing. Most tracks are just plain awkward and contrived.

Disappointing.
