4.0 out of 5 stars Apt Band Name, August 11, 2006
This review is from: Dreams Our Stuff Is Made of (Audio CD)
On "The Dreams Our Stuff is Made Of," Seattle quartet the Purrs debut with a nice, strong dose of psych-pop. Languid numbers spiral and unfurl into the air like smoke. The CD follows 2004's "No Particular Bar, No Particular Town" EP, which elicited comparisons to Echo and the Bunnymen, Galaxie 500, and the Verve. On their first full-length, they sound more like Love fronted by the Dream Syndicate's Steve Wynn. Promising stuff indeed, although Stima's uneven vocals do sometimes threaten to break the mood the band is so adept at setting.
