5.0 out of 5 stars Dreamscapes and beyond !
Phil Thornton always delivers albums with clear production values and subtle layering. this album is no exception.
What is out of character however is the variety of the content - most of his solo albums take a theme and expand on it for the duration ! On this occasion you will find many elements from previous albums coming together - Pastoral English countrysides,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat Disappointing but overall a good CD
I heard "In Search of Avalon" on United Airlines as my introduction to Paul Thornton. I really enjoyed that song a lot so decided to purchase the CD. Cut 7 "Forest Pathways" lived fully up to my expectations for the CD. I prefer a little more melodic music than I found in most of the other cuts. I am glad I bought this CD but it won't be one I can play nonstop.

What is out of character however is the variety of the content - most of his solo albums take a theme and expand on it for the duration ! On this occasion you will find many elements from previous albums coming together - Pastoral English countrysides, Egyptian, south American and African instruments, Native American flutes and other worldly synth and ebow guitar textures - the result is an exotic mix of the familiar and the unique - in my opinion this is his best album since his collaboration with Hossam Ramzy on the album -Immortal Egypt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superb instrumental music, February 8, 2003

A fantastic album of dreamy instrumental music. Somehow this album encapsulates alot of Phil Thornton's styles, as each track has a different feel - some ethnic, some romantic (the almost classical, piano-based feel of the last track), others drenched in flutes. The flutes really are to the fore in this recording; a few are played by Nigel Shaw. The production is top quality, clear, uncluttered, yet also full. Definitely one of his best works.
