So soothing!, January 22, 2002

This is one of the VERY rare albums that are so smooth, and so soothing, the perfect lullaby, without being some silly cheesy New Age attempt. The mix is perfectly balanced, no disturbing 'too-loud' ot 'too-fast' or 'ill-placed' tunes to distract. Perfect for the very late nights..oh yeah. Got to have it!

Nice Comp in the Saturated Market, March 14, 2005
This review is from: Dreamstates (Audio CD)
Unfortunately I didn't pick this up in the happiest of times. It was on September 13th, 2001 and in London. But since I considered London my second home and the people were very friendly, I was in good hands and with nothing to do but sit in the hostel and listen to music, I made a trek out on that day to the record shops and saw this on sale, figuring... 'why not? I have plenty of time to listen to it.' 2001 though was also known for having loads and loads of chillout compilations. From Euphoria's series to the countless MOS tracks, and it was also the last year of Hedkandi's "Serve Chilled" series. This was one of the more obscure chillout compilations that may not have gotten quite as much press.
And this is actually a nice release! It starts out with Tall Paul vs INXS's version of "Precious Heart". Very mellow and soothing. Next up is a cut that'll be no stranger to anyone that's a fan of FIFA or FIFA 2002 for the video games - Schiller's "Das Glockenspiel" given a low key rework. Very nice stuff - great to drive with. Another song that was kickin' all over the clubs in Ibiza and Europe was Roger Sanchez's remake to "Another Chance". This one, given an aptly named "Afterlife Mix" was very nice. Jakatta's "American Dream", also slowed down, is pretty sweet and sexy. Other headlines from Disk one that'll bring back memories of pre 9-11 for me are Chicane's Offshore, Full Intention's very cool "I'll Be Waiting" and tjhe Cafe Del Marsh mix to "Swollen". Meanwhile CD2 is no slouch either and has a very interesting vibe thanks to Life on Mars and Wya Out West. But al in all I'd have to say I preferred CD1's general strength.
This is a nice double disc set that does have a place in my heart. While I don't really think it stacks up to Serve Chilled vol 3 or Euphoria's "Chilled", it's still a capable player for that time (2001) when MOS was hijacking and saturating the market. And there is one particularly sour spot on this album - after "From Russia With Love", it fades into a different song other than "Sister Sister". It's a bit of a bad mix because... you can easily tell this was just a copy that was taken directly off of Euphoria's first chillout mix. Having said that, if you have the MOS series of that time or maybe even the Ultra series too, then there's a good chance you're just duplicating your efforts.
