About the Author

Chrystalla is Greek Cypriot (hence the strange name) and likes writing about bratty, angsty boys and spunky girls in fantasy and science-fiction worlds. She writes mainly for a young adult public but not only (heed the warnings!)
She's currently preparing a non-fiction book about dragons, because the truth must out, and is juggling two series ("Elei's Chronicles" and "Boreal and John Grey").

I have become increasingly in love with Thoma's stories! When I first started reading, I was worried that the characters and plots would be cliche (especially with the introduction of the angsty elf). However, she certainly proved me wrong quickly. Despite being short stories, she does a wonderful job making the characters realistic and fascinating. All of the main characters had inner conflicts which gets resolved quite neatly. The plot and the "world" in each story is original and well-written. The third story is the longest but the first two are my favorites because it was just so unexpected.

I found nothing particularly bad about the stories. At most, the stories felt too short (which is expected since, duh, they ARE short stories). They were long enough to get you hooked but not enough for you to feel satisfied.

Pro: Interesting world and realistic characters, nice twists
Con?: too short

Overall, I would recommend this book to any fantasy fan who's ready to experiment and try a new author. I'm unsure if this book is actually worth the price since it's short enough to be done in an hour. I will just have to leave it to you. If you find this book enjoyable then you will certainly love her other book "Rex Rising". I know I did!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing. August 31, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Three short reads from a master story teller. With an impressive economy of words, I was drawn into vibrant imaginative worlds, each with a powerful story I won't forget. The characters are so real, the colorful settings so vivid, and despite how heart wrenching, the endings fit perfectly. I'll be re-reading these.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dreamwater February 15, 2012
By Scooby2
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a wonderful collection of three short stories. I was delighted to win this from Library Thing. She is such a talented author, the reader will find themselves emerged with the characters with her details and descriptions. I wish these three stories would have been longer. I definitely recommend others give these a try, you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved these short stories January 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a collection of 3 fantasy short stories. It was a quick read...took me just over an hour to read them and left me wanting more of each story. Each story was told so well and so descriptive that I could picture all these characters. Two of the stories had a little twist in the end. I could see each of these stories developing into a novel with more background on each of these main characters. The first story had elves, the second had Shell People and the third had shifters. I will definitely be looking for more from this author.

I received this free ebook through LibraryThing member giveaways in exchange for an honest review.

3.0 out of 5 stars concepts a little lacking October 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Dreamwater is comprised of 3 short stories. The writing is good, but the concepts are a little lacking.

Indra's Return --- A young warrior returns to avenge the wrongful death of his beloved. But is surprised at what he finds. I liked this story with the surprise ending. Even if I realized what was happening shortly before the big reveal.

World of Shells --- Young man set out to find girl before night sets in, despite the terrors and difficulties he must face. I didn't care for this one. It was a bit boring. And the ending really didn't make sense to me.

The Wolf Game --- Werewolves, werefoxes, and werelions: Where is the line for taking it too far? Not very good in my opinion. Concept not a total lose, but need to be done better.
