About the Author

Rachel Andrew--Rachel is a member of the Web Standards Project on the Dreamweaver Task Force, and hopes to encourage best practices in the support and use of W3C Standards in Dreamweaver. She runs her own web solutions company in the UK, www.edgeofmyseat.com, which houses various web standards-focused articles and Dreamweaver extensions. When not writing code, or writing about writing code, Rachel spends time with her daughter, tries to encourage people to use Debian GNU/Linux, studies with the Open University, and enjoys a nice pint of beer.

Gareth Downes-Powell--Gareth has been working in the computer industry for the last 12 years, primarily building and repairing PCs, and writing custom database applications. He branched out onto the Internet 6 years ago, and started creating web sites and applications, which is now his main area of expertise. He specializes in writing custom PHP sites and applications, utilizing MySQL backend databases. Gareth is a partner in Buzz inet, (http://www.buzzinet.co.uk/), a company that specializes in business solutions, and offers professional web design and hosting services. He uses a wide range of Macromedia products, from Dreamweaver MX through to Flash MX and Director for custom Internet and multimedia applications. Recently he started http://www.dreamweavermxsupport.com/ as a way of providing support for the whole Macromedia Dreamweaver MX community, and regularly adds new tutorials and guides to this rapidly expanding site, as well as extensions such as the PHP Login Suite for Dreamweaver MX.

Nancy Gill--Nancy Gill is the owner of Web Wish Productions, a web design business she founded in 1996 after being turned on to the Internet at a seminar designed to get customers interested in a mass mall. Web Wish Productions targets mostly small to mid-sized businesses and has worked with companies in every field from agriculture to entertainment and media. Currently, about 90% of the company’s business consists of data-driven sites. After hand coding in Notepad for nearly three years, Nancy discovered Macromedia and Dreamweaver in 1999 and never looked back. She has been involved in the Macromedia forums since late 2000 and has been a member of Team Macromedia since 2001. Nancy has also participated in a number of beta programs for Macromedia over the past year and is excited about the new MX line of products.

WebXeL.com Ltd established a web site in 2002 dedicated to the development of free and commercial Dreamweaver MX extensions for ASP.NET. The site can be found at http://www.webxel-dw.co.uk/.

Kevin is also a regular contributor to the Macromedia news groups, providing advice and assistance to other Dreamweaver users.

Drew McLellan--Drew McLellan has been involved in web design and development since 1996. Drew originally starting out as a handcoder but quickly saw the great productivity benefits that could be brought by a Visual Editor with the arrival of Dreamweaver 1.2. Since then, Drew has been pushing the boundaries of Dreamweaver through its solid HTML-based methodology and powerful extensible architecture. Drew has a wide knowledge of both web design and development and currently works for a design, marketing, and IT agency in the UK. With literally tens of thousands of his Dreamweaver Extensions in use around the globe, Drew has established a firm seating with the online Dreamweaver community and can be found on a daily basis in Macromedia's news forums teaching and aiding fellow developers. Additonally, the online tutorials from his DreamweaverFever.com web site are recognized as one of the more valuable Dreamweaver resources available, due to their clear and non-assuming use of language. He also helps out at the Web Standards Project as a Dreamweaver expert, focusing on the issues surrounding web standards in Macromedia's flagship HTML editor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, September 26, 2003

This review is from: Dreamweaver Developer's Instant Troubleshooter (Paperback)
Now that MX2004's come out, there's another swathe of massive books, each with the same tired old 300 pages explaining the menus, the panels, what is a computer, how the web works etc etc. If you're not a newbie - if you know your way roudn the products, but you still need a bit of advice on CSS or sone server behavior wierdness, this is a cool book. The authors genuinely know their stuff. I first "met" Gareth and rachel on DMXzone.com where they write power-user tutorials, and this book translates that idea well into print. It's saved me a lot of hours chasing bugs.
