5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Tutorial for Dreamweaver 2.0! I loved it!
Dreamweaver 2.0 - Hands On Training, one of two great Dreamweaver books. You should really consider this book if you'd like to go through simple exercises that will demonstrate the true power of Dreamweaver 2.0. 3.0 out of 5 stars Caveat emptor!
A word to the wise: I, too, decided to look up the reviews for this book. The only review posted (see above) was so effusive that it read like an ad. Then I noticed that the reviewer is listed as being from Ojai, a small town where the author lives. Coincidence? Possibly, but remember, kids...this is the web. Don't believe everything you read. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Tutorial for Dreamweaver 2.0! I loved it!, December 4, 1999
This review is from: Dreamweaver 2.0 Hands-On Training (Paperback)
Dreamweaver 2.0 - Hands On Training, one of two great Dreamweaver books. You should really consider this book if you'd like to go through simple exercises that will demonstrate the true power of Dreamweaver 2.0. I thought I knew what was easy and powerful with Dreamweaver - UNTIL I purchased this book! My eyes were opened to ideas I never before considered. Dreamweaver 2.0 is an unbelievably great web design product, and this book is the perfect companion to anyone at the beginner or intermediate stages. Then again, I thought I was pretty advanced, so unless you know EVERYTHING about Dreamweaver, consider ordering this one. It's a great book. You'll probably rediscover things you had previously forgotten. I did, several times.

The other great Dreamweaver book is the Dreamweaver 2.0 Bible. It's an excellent reference that covers everything you would ever want to know in great detail, but in a simple fashion.

I wish all technical writers could pick up a few tips from these writers. The simple language and easy examples are about as perfect as one can imagine.

One note - DW2 - Hands On Training has a few typos, but nothing serious. You'll see them immediately, and they shouldn't be distracting at all. I don't remember even one typo that made this book technically inaccurate. Don't worry about that. You'll LOVE this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars H.O.T BOOK, January 12, 2000
This review is from: Dreamweaver 2.0 Hands-On Training (Paperback)
This book covers the essentials in designing with DW. If you are looking for a book that will teach you the basics and then throw you right in to some of the more complicated applications that you can use with this program, then this is the book for you. Most people complain about these types of books because they don't go into specifics about some topics. Books like the HOT series can only give you the tools to learn this stuff on your own. Your limitation in Dreamweaver is up to your imagination. If you need someone holding your hand while you do it, you will get nowhere. This book will hold your hand, then let it go when the time is right. By the end of the book, you will be able to take those ideas that you have stacked in your brain and develop a creative and innovative web site. Great book for classroom instruction.

I came into this with no website-building experience and I needed to build one as quickly as I could. I looked at a couple of books to learn how to use Dreamweaver and this one met my expectations in EVERY way! If you like to feel comfortable with a big picture about a program before you start pushing buttons and messing around, get this book.

I, too, have spent good money on Lynda's book(s), and they can be pretty good, but you must accept a jaw-dropping amount of errata, dead links, misspellings, and bad code if you are to read these books. Sometimes I wish that authors would take just a little more time to write their books. Good luck, and buyer beware!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great hands-on for the beginner!, January 28, 2000

Lynda Weinman presents Dreamweaver 2 in a clear, precise manner but this book is meant for the beginning user. She takes you through each step in a way that is easy and fun to do! The next step for ppl. that finished this book is to find one that goes into it a lot more or pick up Dreamweaver 2 Visual Quickstart Guide which can help expand what she has presented. Overall a very good book to start out with! I can't wait for Flash 4 H.O.T.!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction-works for DW3 too, January 8, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Dreamweaver 2.0 Hands-On Training (Paperback)
I've never used anything other than pagemill to make web pages before, but decided to take the plunge with Dreamweaver (I'm a novice). I looked at a lot of other books, but this worked out great. Lynda teaches practical applications. Virtually all the other books (imho) are a random collection of functions that I couldn't string together. I used this book with DW3 and most of it works identically (I couldn't wait for an updated book and DW2 wasn't available). I didn't go through the DHTML or plug-in chapter though. There are minor differences but you should be able to figure it out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for the Dreamweaver novice, March 7, 2000
This review is from: Dreamweaver 2.0 Hands-On Training (Paperback)
I have never used Dreamweaver before and this book made my beginning experiences with Dreamweaver less intimidating. Dreamweaver is a very powerful piece of software and can seem overwhelming, but with the H.O.T book by Lynda, I was not overwhelmed. This book is not intended to be a Bible, but rather a jumpstart into the world of Dreamweaver. What you do after reading this book is up to you. There are other books that give you more in-depth information about Dreamweaver, but this is excellent for someone wanting to get their hands wet with DreamWeaver. Great job Lynda.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roll up your sleeves and start producing, December 19, 1999

Set all Macromedia's claims to ease of use aside; Dreamweaver isn't an easy application to learn for a non-Javascript/HTML/DHTML/CSS/FTP, etc. expert. This well written and excellently organized book will enable even a novice web designer to quickly crank out very sophisticated, well functional pages.

An added benefit is that it also utilizes Dreamweaver as a HTML learning tool, helping users to understand the coding is happening behind the scenes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ignore the "buyer beware" people - this book is excellent!, December 15, 1999
This review is from: Dreamweaver 2.0 Hands-On Training (Paperback)
I read this book over the course of week while designing a website. Lynda did a great job TEACHING, which most manuals do not do. One thing I liked about the book is that you can start on any chapter and do the exercises, it was not required that you complete the previous chapters. Once again, this is by far the best beg/int book on Dreamweaver around.
