Book Description

August 23, 2004 1590594096 978-1590594094 1

Recently updated to version MX 2004, Dreamweaver remains the world’s most popular tool for website design and development - with over three million users worldwide. This new version features updated accessibility features, and supports multiple languages and technologies, such as CSS and XHTML, PHP 4 and ASP 3, MySQL and Access, Apache and IIS, and Windows and Mac operating systems.

This book contains four detailed design projects - case studies that teach advanced web design and development techniques - relevant to Dreamweaver MX 2004. Two design projects are performed on a Mac, and two on a PC - but all four projects apply to both Mac and PC users. Two of the projects focus on client-side web design techniques, while the other two focus on intensive ASP and PHP server-side site programming and development.

About the Author

Allan Kent lives, works, and plays in Cape Town, South Africa. In the last four years, he's been implicated in at least 10 books dealing with PHP and web-related topics. When not being harassed by persistent editors about deadlines, he works doing new media design at Lodestone, which he co-owns. When not writing or programming, he enjoys relaxing at home with Wendy and their cats.

Rachel Andrew is a director of edgeofmyseat.com, a U.K.-based web solutions company, and is an experienced web developer. Rachel is a member of the Web Standards Project on the Dreamweaver Task Force, and hopes to encourage best practices in the support and use of W3C Standards in Dreamweaver. In addition to co-authoring several books, Rachel writes for various magazines and resource sites, both online and off. When not writing code or writing about writing code, Rachel spends time with her daughter, tries to encourage people to use Debian GNU/Linux, studies with the Open University, and enjoys a nice pint of beer.

He shows his true colors and most recent activities at his personal website, Christopher.org. Speaking at conferences like The Other Dreamweaver Conference and SXSW, Christopher has given talks demonstrating the use and benefits of practical CSS-enabled designs. In his continuing efforts to help spread the word about web design, he is the list mom for Babble, a mailing list community devoted to advanced web design and development topics.

2.0 out of 5 stars This book doesn't know who it's audience is, February 13, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Dreamweaver MX 2004 Design Projects (Paperback)
This book goes through 4 examples of real webpages and how they might be done. The book is written by four people and that's probably where the issue is.

It sounds like the book is aimed towards beginners, but touches on some advanced topics. It touches a little on CSS, a little on PHP/mysql, a little on design in general, etc It just sounds like the four authors didn't coordinate well.

If you are an advanced user, this book may be good in finding out how to do certain functionalities easier with dreamweaver, but still too much writing to read for that use. You may consider just getting a Dreamweaver reference manual by somebody else in that case.

1.0 out of 5 stars Overclaims - Underdelivers, October 20, 2004
This review is from: Dreamweaver MX 2004 Design Projects (Paperback)
The publishers promise more than the book delivers. In Project 1 (20% of the book) non-code design issues are dealt with in a summary fashion. CSS code is built directly, without reference to the DW Manage Styles interface. Passing reference is made to DW's Templates. Much is left to your own skill set. The downloadable files degrade poorly in IE6. If you need to expand your DW skills:- Avoid. If you just want to code CSS:- consider.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underestimated! Unterschätzt!, September 26, 2005
By
This review is from: Dreamweaver MX 2004 Design Projects (Paperback)
