Author J. Tarin Towers commences her discussion of Dreamweaver 2 by showing you how to navigate and customize the software's interface. She follows by demonstrating how you can quickly use the software to create basic Web pages.
You build on the basics by learning Dreamweaver's features for creating text, manipulating paragraphs, creating a good layout, working with images, adding links, and using tables and frames. Trickier tasks include creating forms, working with Style Sheets, creating and managing layers, adding and modifying behaviors, and drawing timelines.
Towers also teaches you how to work with libraries and templates, use plug-ins and active content, and set up and manage your site. Throughout Dreamweaver 2 for Windows and Macintosh, you'll get the benefit of large screen shots along with tasks involving clear steps, usage tips and shortcuts, and alternative approaches to using the most common features. --Kathleen Caster
Surfing the same wave of success is Dreamweaver 2 for Windows and Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide, the essential, visually rich guide to Dreamweaver 2. Whether readers are just starting to learn the basics of Web page design or looking to build on their Web design expertise, this book will give them a thorough grounding in Dreamweaver's capabilities. Nearly every chapter goes beyond Dreamweaver's WYSIWYG visual editing and delves into working with the code to enhance Web pages.

Great Start-up for DW2 Newbies- Very Acurate Title,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dreamweaver 2 for Windows & Macintosh, Second Edition (Visual QuickStart Guide) (Paperback)
OK you big, bad critics, READ THE TITLE. This is not "The Complete DW Ref.", nor "The DW 2 Guide for DW 1.2 Users", nor even "The Advanced DW Guide for DW Experts". This is a great book for doing what the title states- getting started using the program quickly (hense VQS). This book is great for getting started using the most useful and exciting WYSIWYG editor around. The book focusses on how to use the immense functionality available in DW 2. The concise explainations and helpful visuals get the point across without overwhelming those unfamiliar with DW. This also keeps the book short (can be read in week-end). I would also suggest buying the HTML, JavaScript, DHTML, and PERL/ CGI VQS Guides (in this order). This will allow you to get the most out of DW's vast capabilities. For those of you looking for something other than a qickstart (or in addition to) try the Dreamweaver 2 Bible, or Dreamweaver H.O.T.

A Must-Have book for a Must-Have utility- DW2,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dreamweaver 2 for Windows & Macintosh, Second Edition (Visual QuickStart Guide) (Paperback)
BUY DW2 and buy this book. DW2 is the ONLY true WYSIWYG HTML editor out there. It also writes mucho JS and DHTML(CSS) for you as well. But, you can best utilize it if you know JS and DHTML (use the VQS for this too). It also is great for Site Management (a nonobvious NECESSITY- big time and headache saver). And this book gets you well on your way to using this incredibly powerful software. After reading Dreamweaver 2, HTML 4, Perl & CGI, DHTML, and Javascript VQS's, I have created a 50 Pg., 175 pg., and 2,500 pg. sites in about two months. In addition, I taught my 65 y.o. mother to create her own site with the help of DW2 and the VQS series. Don't hesitate, buy these books now (great price here at Amazon.com). They also have great companion websites. Once you get started, then look at the "Bible" series or another reference book (600+ pgs.). Good-luck. P.S. - I don't work for nor am compensated by the publisher or Macromedia.

Poorly written and not meant for new users,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dreamweaver 2 for Windows & Macintosh, Second Edition (Visual QuickStart Guide) (Paperback)
This book is a total waste of money. It is more like a boring reference manual. The free online book available from macromedia is far superior and well written (can be downloaded from macromedia site. It is about 2.5MB acrobat file)
