I purchased the DREMEL 2001, MOD 108 at LOWES on November 18, 2011. Since I purchased it, I probably used it 4 or 5 times. On Tuesday, January 22, 2013; I was using it for about 15 minutes on low speed doing some very minor carving on a wooden wine stopper; and it just quit. My first reaction was to check the power source which had no problems. I then got the manual and read about inspecting the brushes. I checked the brushes and they were in apparent great condition. I re-installed the brushes making sure they matched the commutator. I plugged the rotary tool and turned in and nothing happened--the rotary tool had died. I was disappointed on two fronts: (1) Other than inspecting the brushes, there is no troubleshooting section in the manual; and (2) for the little usage the tool had a fairly a short lifespan.
On Wednesday, January 23; I went to [...] and wrote a message via the website to customer support explaining my problem with the rotary tool; and asking for a possible solution to my predicament. On Friday, January 25, I received a very pleasant reply from the Dremel staff indicating my rotary tool was still under warranty. As requested, on Saturday, January 26, I sent the rotary tool to Dremel Service via Priority Mail ($6.10). It arrived on Monday, January 28. On Tuesday, January 29, I received a message indicating the rotary tool was repaired under warranty (it had a dead field (whatever that means--thus the lack of troubleshooting information in the manual). Wednesday, January 30, the rotary tool was on its way back to me. I just want to let others out there know that the level of integrity, honesty, quick turnaround and outstanding customer service by the Dremel staff are rare these days. This type of customer friendliness boosts our confidence in Dremel and Bosch products.

I use this to trim my dog's nails, and it works great. The cordless version just couldn't maintain the power necessary, and this corded Dremel does the trick. I keep it on the lower of the two settings, but other than that I'm very satisfied.

I use the dremel for dog nails, have for nearly 20 years. Its the most awesome way to do nails especially when you have a bunch to do. This is my third Dremel tool, and I love each and every one of them.

This is my favorite Dremel tool. The long cord gives me plenty of range for working at my work bench. Has a nice weight to it, easy to operate with one hand. The quick change chuck makes it very easy to change bits. Best of all I never have to wait for battery to charge; just plug it in to an electricity outlet and it is ready to go.

I bought this for the express purpose of grinding my dogs' nails. It was to replace the battery operated Pet Nail Trimmer, also made by Dremmel. That product started losing charge, and I couldn't do both dogs on a single charge. Also, the battery was loosened over time, which caused the tool to pause momentarily while in use. Very irritating to both me and my dogs.

SDo, in search of a replacement, I opted for this corded version. I was concerned that it might be too loud, and the dogs would react to that, but after hearing it for a few seconds, they will willingly let me do their nails. Really, no leash or collar. When one is finished, the other will come to our nail place and take his turn.

This Dremmel has so much more power and speed than the battery operated one that the whole job takes less than half the time. I recommend wearing gloves when using it, because it will grind your nails (or anything else) if you touch them!

I am very happy with my purchase. Incidentally, I use this on Dalmatians, which are medium sized dogs, and it handles their nail trimming needs with ease.

I may yet find even more uses for this great tool!

I enjoy using this tool to make some of my cosplay pieces. I'm using it for PVC and other plastics. Works like a dream. Great price point, too.

The grout between the tiles in the kitchen counter was saturated with grease and needed replacing. Purchased this tool (with grinder guide and 1/8 inch bit) to grind out the old grout. It worked quite well, digging nice, deep furrows into the old hardened grout.
The guide allowed me to keep (more or less) straight down the planned path, with no damage to the tiles. And that even though I had no previous experience with similar tools nor with the specific task. Given that I was quoted USD500 and up for the job, the USD80 price tag for this unit is money well spent (and now I have one more toy in my toolbox).
Quite noisy little gizmo: had to wear -29dB hearmuff to avoid becoming fatigued. The high RPM motor and lack of a safety switch (someone already commented on it) make this a tool to keep out of the reach of wife and children. Eye protection is a must when using this tool.
The accessories provided are only a small sample of what is available, but seem adequate for a casual user like me. Regret no pouch/box is provided into which to keep all the pieces together with the motor handle, as the shipping box is simple cardboard; an old cookie tin does the job, lined with foam to prevent dulling the tools' sharp edges.
The on/off switch doubles as a speed selector and sits very near the hand grip, which makes it easy to change speeds by accident (a minor flaw in my mind).
I would recommend this model to a friend.
