4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised. Very well made and versatile
I wasn't expecting too much from the reviews and knowing this is all plastic. For light work its great and very easy to work with during projects. You can put the vise in differently than the photo shows allowing your to quickly remove it from the bench or desk and take it to the drill press or wherever. As discussed its not for super heavy duty work where you need a...

2.0 out of 5 stars OK for the money, but I'd look elsewhere.
This vise does work, but not well enough to be of good value, but then being a machinist maybe I'm too hard to please. The plastic acme screw thread is not smooth and difficult to operate even after I lubricated it and the clamping faces don't line-up consistently. It's pretty much all plastic and I guess your getting your moneys worth, BUT....... a good vise is a...

5.0 out of 5 stars More solid than I expected, August 2, 2009
This review is from: Dremel 2500-01 Rotary Tool Multi-Vise (Tools & Home Improvement)
I read a few reviews of the vise being made of plastic and that it wasn't very solid. The reviews gave me low expectations. I didn't want to buy something I'd regret.

At my local home improvement store, I saw and reluctantly tried a display. The solid feel and the range of grasping angles caught me by surprise. I wanted a vise that could bend to fit my projects, this is it. Much impressed by the demo, I took one home right away.

Now realize, this is very compatible with rotary tools in that it's not meant for heavy duty work--like bearing down and ripping through 2x4's. Perhaps 'vice' is a misleading word in that regard--this isn't a hunk of metal bolted to a bench. This is a 'rotary tool multi-vise' which is an accurate description of this product--a multiple position clamp/holder for rotary tool projects.

I've used this vise for wood working projects (custom guitar parts) and cutting bolts and other remodeling work. The vise is absolutely fine, solid, and reliable. The plastic bits are hard molded and there is a fair amount of cast metal. The blue contact pieces of the clamp are the 'soft' pads. Those are removable and give a good amount of cushion and support to hold your project. There is an attachment to mount the tool instead of the clamp. You can also use the clamp independent of the base. The clamp slides along the rail when you hold a release button and squeezes to a firm grip with the knob.

Like I said, I was against this product, but once I tried one it was a perfect match.

4.0 out of 5 stars Extra hand makes work a little easier, December 11, 2007
This review is from: Dremel 2500-01 Rotary Tool Multi-Vise (Tools & Home Improvement)
So far this little vise has been just what the Dr ordered. It holds the dremel tool securely to my work surface, keeping my hands free to hold the project. It will also hold the project well when the item is too small to hold in my hands. Great item - watch for sales or bonus buys to make this an even better deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars DREMEL 2500 VISE, April 20, 2008

I OWN FOUR OTHER DREMEL VISE'S, PLUS I ALSO HAVE MOST OF THEIR POWER TOOLS. I STARTED BUYING DREMEL IN 1965 AND I HAVE DONE COUNTLESS WORK PROJECTS WITH THEM. I AM NOW A MINIATURE MACHINIST BUILDING STERLING ENGINES AND THE DREMEL TOOLS ARE A GREAT ASSET. THE VISE IS EXCEPTIONAL IN HOLDING AND POSITIONING TO MY TYPE OF WORK PROJECTS. I HAVE ALREADY USED IT FOR MANY PROJECTS. THE RAPID JAW SPACING AND GRIP POWER ARE OF GREAT HELP WITH MY CARPAL TUNNEL PROBLEM. JUST DON'T EXPECT THIS VISE TO DO THE JOB OF A METAL MACHINIST VISE. THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE RIGHT JOB IS A GOOD GUIDELINE. HERB WELDON

This multi-position vice is really a benefit when you need a third hand. I have used mine many times. I would rate it with 5 stars except for the two gripping parts which hold the material steady are made of a strong plastic. Ordinarily that is OK except when the materials you are working on heat up and leave an impression on the two grips. Obviously, the fix for this is do not continue working on the material when it gets too hot. A better fix would be for Dremel to include a metal gripping surface that is insulated from the plastic grip so heat will not be transferred to other plastic parts of the vise. People who have used Dremels appreciate this because they know the high speeds of the Dremel can cause a lot of heat rather quickly. While I find this to be a fault, it is one that you can work around.

This is a great tool for working with objects from 1/2" to 6" or perhaps more. You can position an object in almost any angle and adjust the pressure easily and in small increments. I recomend it for hobbiests working with wood, jewelery, metal, etc. While it is a little roughly finished at the base, the jaws of the vice and the other surfaces are nicely finished. This is a good buy for the money and will be very useful unless you need precision equipment.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent for light duty, June 7, 2009
This review is from: Dremel 2500-01 Rotary Tool Multi-Vise (Tools & Home Improvement)
first use was to hold a cookoo (sp) clock while i was repairing the ballasts. this was obviously old, and as the vise mounts anywhere, i was able to attach it easily to a table AWAY from everyone else. the vise left no marks afterwards due to its pressure adjustment handle, as this is a wooden clock. so, summary - this is an excellent light duty vise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent design but overpriced because it is made of plastic, November 18, 2010

This review is from: Dremel 2500-01 Rotary Tool Multi-Vise (Tools & Home Improvement)
I am an RC aircraft builder/hobbyist and I consider Dremel to be the best hobby tools and attachment accessories available.
I have many attachments for my Dremel tools and they are excellent for light duty hobby/craft work.
I really love the design of the vise in which it is somewhat versatile and easy to use for a lot of jobs but
not too good for others like clamping parts to be soldered.
IMHO for the price the units could be made of materials more stronger and heat resistant than plastic
for example aluminum could be used. aluminum can withstand more pressure and give the multi vise more
clamping power for a stronger grip than plastic can and would better reflect the the current asking price for the plastic unit.

Just one persons opinion.
