I bought this specifically for cutting holes in drywall for electrical boxes, but I have since found that it has many uses beyond that.

What I have found:

- As someone else has stated, the depth gauge is a little inaccurate. You will have to sight the depth for this (which is best anyway.)

- Made of quality materials. You've come across that cheap plastic before; this is not that stuff. This has taken a few drops, so far.

- The drywall bits seem to wear out quicker than I planned on. I have only cut 10 holes for electrical outlets and it seems to take longer to cut each time I use it. The first hole I cut went fast and smooth; whereas the last one that I just cut took three times as long, and twice as much pressure.

- The bit will tend to 'walk' if you don't have firm control over it. (I know, I know, this seems obvious, but maybe not to everyone.) Use of a guide or fence should help control the outcome of your results.

- Does NOT tear drywall. Smooth cuts on both sides -- smoother than my Greenlee drywall/keyhole saw.

- You'll need to use the mini-chuck with the guide. The bigger chuck won't allow the guide to screw down. (I think everyone got one with their main Dremel unit, but I'm not sure.)

- Holding a vacuum hose or air nozzle to one side of the guide will greatly increase your sight. This thing kicks up some serious dust, and unless the light is good, the line you're following may be difficult to see.

I highly recommend this product for those finish cuts on drywall where a saw just won't leave the edges smooth. If you plan on cutting more than 20 holes in drywall, I'd pick up another bit or two.

IF you were to see how cleanly this kit cuts through Drywall you would know how great this tool is. The cut is nice clean and straight. No wraggly cuts like with a saber saw or keyhole saw. We used it to cut the hole for the box while Mounting Ceiling fans in the Master Bedroom and Living Room of our house and it was Indispensable.

Although this device is meant more for drywall cutting, I find it to be a useful tool when I'm cutting out narrow, shallow depressions in styrofoam for miniature landscape crafting. When I want to cut down to- and maintain- a specific depth, the guide lends me a really big assist.
Sadly, it's one of those accessories that require the use of collets, rather than a chuck, on the rotary tool. Not a really good thing when I'm constantly changing bits, and want to do it quickly. Oh well...
`Late!

You can control the tool very easy with this attachment and better of all is compatible with the RTX of Black & Decker.

I have used this tool as a router guide and was very satisfied with how it worked. The adjustable depth allowed me to cut into the material without cutting all the way through.

I bought it years ago and never ended up using it until today. I was carving a pumpkin with my Dremel for the first time, and I realized that this would be ideal for keeping a consistent depth, using it like a hand held router.

It worked FANTASTIC. The high speed bit turns pumpkin flesh into a pulpy mush that surprisingly doesn't get flung anywhere. It just settles in. Which means that you can carve an awesome pumpkin with virtually NO MESS, a major plus!

I have no idea how good it is at cutting normal stuff, but all those folks on the Internet who say using a Dremel is nice but time consuming and messy, this solves both those problems!

My review is strictly about the depth guide, because I do highly recommend experimenting with using it with other bits. I have used this in four different projects so far.
I cut the plastic undercarriage panel of my car for installing a hitch. Worked great and the depth gauge stopped me from hitting metal. I used the standard bit here.
I cut a few holes in drywall for installing outlets and switches. Also worked great. Used standard bits. It creates a lot of dust but for "old work boxes" it makes the hole clean and fast. I hear a few people here saying drywall eats up the bits quickly. I can't speak to that yet because I've only cut about 3 so far. But one of them had 1/8" plywood behind the drywall and it tore through easily.
I also needed to recess the door latch plate deeper into the side of the door. I decided to try this depth gauge with a small cylindrical wood carver. I set the depth where I wanted and simply free handed the rectangle, including the inside area. This was quick and dirty. Not as clean as using a chisel properly but it was my best option at the time. You will get rounded corners doing this.
I also used this as sort of a jigsaw for cutting a piece of laminate flooring. I wouldn't recommend it for anything more than a 1 foot cut. It was slow and obviously not the right tool for the job, but I only needed a small cut so it still worked.

Overall, I think this depth guide has its place but it could be better. I find it to be a little flimsy. I need to crank the thumb screw so tight that I can't see the plastic lasting a long time. It's also not perfectly square in relation to bits.

I would love to see a beefed up version of this made out of aluminum or steel. Something that is more accurate with depth and accurately square.
