Save $10 and just buy the bit,
By Brad C. "BC" (Chapel Hill, NC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dremel 568 Grout Removal Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
The attachment doesn't keep the bit centered and won't work near corners. The housing has two tabs that are supposed to guide the bit along the grout line. The problem is that the housing is made of cheap plastic so when you tighten it it distorts and causes the bit to be off center. This is only good for very small jobs and they tend to be near corners, so for get this tool. I found that I could easily complete the job freehand. So just buy the bit size that you need and save $10 (or $15 in some stores).

Dremel Grout Removal Kit When Doing A Floor,
By Richard Krigsman (Stamford, CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dremel 568 Grout Removal Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
This works OK for a small floor area only such as 1 or a few tiles at most. Due to hardness of the grout the bit will definately break ([price] to replace)after about 10 mins or less of use. Dremel is aware of this issue and doesn't recommend this kit for more then a small area. Walls are OK if the grout is a softer or vinyl enhanced grout. If you do use this, stop frequently to allow the bit to cool and you may be able to get the bit to last a bit longer. For floors, use a Dremel with a Carbide Cutter Bit (the one with a star pattern and pointed) and this bit will last forever. Use w/o the Dremel kit and be carefull at the corners of the tiles as this bit will cut into the tile if you don't keep it moving through the intersections. The point allows you to get the grout out of small areas or large. Note that everyone whom has done grout work on a floor has tried it and quickly broken the bit which comes with the kit. It's easily returned broken though where you purchased it. Dremel's customer service says to return it to them if there's an issue with the store. The realize that the packaging is a bit misleading in regards to the kit's capabilities.

Great attachment,

I bought this attachment to finish cleaning the grout out of my tub/shower. I had done some of it by hand, but with my bad wrist, it was too much. I actually didn't use the bit that came with the kit, I bought 6 bits from leakyshower.com, for the price of one dremel bit, and only needed to use one to do the entire job. I had heard that the bit that comes with this attachment breaks easily, so I didn't bother to try it. I just bought the bits from Leakyshower.com.

Cuts Grout Like Butter !,
By MICHAEL EVANS (BOARDMAN, OH United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dremel 568 Grout Removal Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
Upon recieving the Dremel 568 grout removing kit I put it to use on my parents bathroom wall tile.I was a bit concerned it wouldn't attach to my 20 year old Dremel moto tool but found through a part removal it hooked right up.A typical labor intensive task was shortly being eliminated through the design of the attachments 30 degree angle that provided a very controlled cut-it cut like butter! The carbide tip lasted throughout the project,so well,[unfortunatly for me]will be finding itself de-grouting my shower tile real soon !This product is a godsend,I would highly recommend it to anyone with the ambition to tackle such a normally nagging task-great product!

Like many other reviewers, I picked up this attachment to remove the grout from my shower surround prior to regrouting. The biggest problem is that the attachment deos not keep the bit centered. The plastic guide "nubs" wore down to almost nothing before the job was 1/2 done, so most work was basically performed freehand.I did not experience any problems with the bit breaking. Don't force the tool, as with any other dremel work, and it should be fine. Overall I don't reccomend this attachement for more than a few square feet of tile.

A joke,

The need to regrout our shower was the excuse for the whole purchase, and I set about to do that. I assembled the 568D to the 8000 and noticed that the that the two molded guides in the attachment did not line up with the grout removal bit in the chuck. That is, if the tool was held with the guides in the grout line, the cutter was carving the edge of one of the tiles.I analyzed the problem and found the following: 1] The guides line up with the centerline of the collet depending first on the plastic threads of the adapter collar and the face of the collar against the body of the tool. This is not precise enough to guarantee alignment and is subject to the torque of tightening. 2] the next interface is the adjustable depth clamp. This is not centered on the collar longitudinally so when clamping force is applied the adapter twists with respect to the collar, which results in exactly the problem I experienced: The guides move off the line of the cutter. 3] The molded ABS plastic guides would very soon be worn by the abrasive nature of the grout and would be ground away to nothing. So the attachment is pretty worthless.

Works great, and fast too!,
By A Customer

The grout removal attachment delivered as promised. It took the grout out so fast I was actually surprised. I have tips for success: 1. Always pull the tool, if you push it backwards the tip may break. 2. Use a shop vac to clean up the dust periodically as you go. Suck or blow out the tool with air from the vac to get the dust out. 3. Stand back and admire a job well done.

Bits break too easily,

I tried to regrout my tub with this thing. I had to buy 2 replacement bits (for a total of three) and broke both of those and didn't even finish the job. It wouldn't have made me so mad except that the bits cost about $10 each. I followed the directions and still had trouble. A grout saw is still your best bet.

Nice idea ......................but.,

After starting the degrouting job on by tub/shower i purchased a new dremel motor and this tool. The grout was 1/16" give or take and the grout was 20 years old. the bit cuts great and i did end up breaking 3 bits (@ $11.00 each). i was only 1/3 of the way done. The motor itself began having bearing problems, 3 hours into the job, due to grout dust ingestion. Home Depot gladly swapped tools. The worst part of this tool was dust blown all over the house. Finally took a hammer to the job and went to the studs and in the process found some serious potential problems. After 50.00 of hardibacker, 8.00 of tarpaper, 20.00 mastic, 110.00 in tiles, 12.00 grout and 15.00 misc i had a better job done with some potential problems fixed. It took 1 week of evenings to finish. This is a good tool for a tile or two but to regrout a full surround (that is fairly old and you plan on living in your house not selling)..... I think you would be money ahead to at least consider a different route

Don't grout without it..........,

I tried the grout removal without the tool using the abrasive discs; then purchased the grout removal tool....IT WORKS GREAT, saves a lot of time and aggravation. Just set the depth that you want and keep the guides in the grout slot and you are on the road to a quick job. I sweep up the grout removed; or you can use your shop vac. Wear a mask and use googles to be safe.
