Personally I think it was a great idea by Dremmel but it was not well designed. I wouldn't purchase this product again for one reason only ---> It drains 4 AA Batteries so fast that you minus well just by a ac powered Dremmel and save some $$$. Also, the bit that comes with the pumpkin package is a joke. Anyway, just save your money and put it towards a real Dremmel and you will have lots of fun with it. Again, great idea, but poor execution...

Would never buy this product again ; and would not recommend anyone to buy it.
unfortunately I had not read the reviews on this products before I ordered it ; because now, reading the reviews, I completely agree with them.
It eats batteries (max 15 - 20 minutes of usage perhaps ), and that is 4 batteries at a time ; plus the carving device it comes with does not work well for the purpose.
a waste of money.
I don't know the original Dremel - which gets better reviews - but with this experience, it is unlikely that I will ever consider it. a Shame.

This product is not meant to actually carve your pumpkin. If you watch the video they even say if you want to use a Dremel to actually carve your pumpkin you need to go for the 180v Lithium Tool, meaning use another Dremel completely. This is mostly for surface carving on your pumpkin. It's more for foam pumpkins and for those who don't actually want to carve a pumpkin. It's also good for carving designs into wood, as they suggest in the video you do that before trying a design on your pumpkin. I feel bad this tool is getting a bad wrap. It would be strong enough for the job it's intended to do, but it will not handle full pumpkin carving. Hope this helped.

We had high hopes for this product, but we gave up after just a few minutes of frustration. First, the tool has trouble removing any pumpkin material. Because the cutting depth is a quarter of an inch or so and doesn't have a sharp point, it can't cut through to the inside of a pumpkin easily. Second, pumpkins have smooth, slippery surfaces. It is nearly impossible to be accurate with this tool, as it slips and glides along the surface.

Overall an exercise in frustration. A Dremel tool simply isn't a good choice for pumpkin carving.

For $10 more, I would suggest the Dremel 7300 amazon.com/Dremel-7300-N-MiniMite-4-8-Volt-Two-Speed/dp/B003TU0XFU/ref=pd_cp_hi_1 at least that has a rechargeable battery

This was more or less an impulse buy when I saw the Dremel listed with a book on pumpkin carving by Tom Nardone. (Great book!) Like others, I was excited about having a Dremel to use for pumpkin carving. Unfortunately, I relied on the good reputation for Dremel tools and did not take the time to read reviews on this particular item. Bad mistake! The upshot: I used a steak knife for carving this year. The Dremel worked, albeit slowly, for about 5 minutes give or take. After that, the on position no longer worked. However, the low speed did for a few more minutes,- but it was useless when it came to working on the outside or inside of a pumpkin. I find myself in agreement: I would like to try a Dremel for pumpkin carving -- but it will have to be one of the "real" units and not this one.

I was under the impression that the Dremel Pumpkin Carving Kit would allow you to actually carve the pumpkin. Not so. The Dremel merely "dents" the pumpkin and does not go all the way through the pumpkin skin. This is not a pumpkin carving kit. The Dremel scratches the skin and makes the pumpkin "glow through the skin." Once again, not a pumpkin carving kit.
