5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what is needed for the do it yourself nails!
Like many of us, I am a stay at home mom who wants nice looking hands but does not have the time or the money to spend in a nail salon every 2 weeeks. I have tried the drug store glue on type nails and do it yourself acrylics but never had the professional results I used to get at the salon before I had my children....and budget!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for natural nails
Nowhere on the online description or the outside packaging are you told this product is only for use on artificial nails. It is not until you open and virtually destroy the packaging and you read the instruction manual does it tell you this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what is needed for the do it yourself nails!, October 22, 2005

This Dremel manicuring tool is the perfect solution. Combined with the drug store products, this gives you great looking nails. I was able to easily and quickly "dremel" them down to the perfect shape and thickness!

There is no need to order any spare parts or accessories for this. Everything you need is included with the tool. You just add 4 AA batteries.

There are two speeds Low and High. The High speed is sufficient to grind down the thick sides of the nail tips that may be just a bit to big for your individual nail. The low speed is sufficient for "sanding" down the thickenss on the top of the nail. I used the "sanding" drum shaped attachment for this. There is also a pin shpaed accessory which I found to be great for shaping underneath the top of the tip so that the artificial nail doesn't have that "artificial nail" thickness. It also removes that tiny number that is embossed in the nail tip. Feeling somewhat of a beginner at this, I purchased the pre-shaped nail tips that were short and very close to the size that I wanted. This tool really made shaping and filing these nails look perfect.

Don't worry that the "battery power" will not be enough for this tool to do the job. There is more than enough power! I found myself using the low setting more than the high!

Affordably priced, you can buy what you need at the drug store plus this and have great looking nails for less than the cost of a full set and a fill from a salon. Anyone who has tried the do it yourself acrylics will attest to the fact that unless you have the trained hand and light touch of a professional, the acrylic comes on really thick. This Dremel tool WILL help you shape and sand the thickness down easily and quickly!

It is very easy to handle and the accessories are very very easy to change.

I was very skeptical about purchasing this but after my first try, I was convinced that my purchase was a wise investment. One I will use over and over again.

Don't be afraid of this product! It is a winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for upkeep between fills!, March 25, 2005

This review is from: Dremel 762-01 Cordless Manicure Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have acrylics that I have filled every 2-3 weeks. The one thing that always bugged me was when the natural nail underneath the tip began to collect dirt. At first, I asked my husband to bust out his Dremel tool from the garage so I could drill out the nail. He was worried that the high-speed would burn my fingertips (Dremel tools operate at very high speeds). After he brought it out it was obvious it wouldn't work - the thing was heavy and DIRTY. So I gave up on that idea. But because my nails were bugging me, I ended up using one of his Dremel tool attachments and scraping it out.

So I was DELIGHTED to find this tool. Being battery-operated, with only Low and High speeds, you won't be burned by the ultra high speeds of a usual Dremel tool. Also, it's lightweight so you can grip it like a pencil and maneuver it. It comes with the perfect little attachment for cleaning out under the nail and also with buffers to keep up the shine. My nail lady was impressed to see how good my nails looked after 3 weeks.

I was apprehensive of the AA batteries that go in it. I expected it to start flagging after 2 minutes of use. But so far it hasn't been a problem and I've used it on High speed several times and it's still going strong. Dremel could probably improve the product by putting in some sort of higher-tech battery that can be recharged (like the kind they put in razors?)

Aside from finally getting the under-nail relief, I think what I like best of all is that this is MINE. I don't have to rummage in the garage or through tool boxes for the bigger Dremel tool. This one is pretty (purple color) and clean and sits well in my drawer. The only thing I think I wish it came with was some sort of case to keep it and the teeny-tiny attchments in.

I have been using my cordless rechargeable Dremel for nail jobs for about 15 years and it has always worked perfectly. I use attachments specifically made for nails and not the kind shown on the picture here. They look kind of unhygenic and non-professional.

I am surprised that it took such a long time for Dremel to come up with the idea.

Please note that I am neither a brain surgeon nor a nuclear scientist. It's plain common sense.

I've actually used it on my natural nails, whether it says you can or not. I use it on low speed with a large stone bit (purchased seperately from Dremel -they have many bits available for their rotary tools). Keep in mind though that I'm a guy and I bite my nails(bad habit I know), but the tool helps me straighten them out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Fiberglass, October 21, 2005
This review is from: Dremel 762-01 Cordless Manicure Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I am a total beginner at manicuring my own nails. Because the resin is so thin and watery, my nails end up lumpy and it can take me literally hours to file them all down until they are ready for polish.

The dremel cuts manicuring time down substantially, so much so that I now look forward to doing my nails.

The kit contains everything you need to complete silk or fiberglass nails. It is so simple and easy. If I can do it, anyone can do it.

I now want to try the pet dremel on my dog and cats.

Thanks, dremel!

4.0 out of 5 stars PET OWNERS this is ideal, November 25, 2005
This review is from: Dremel 762-01 Cordless Manicure Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I had a 127 pound dog who could really tear up the flooring if you did not trim his claws. The SPCA puppy class instructor told us to use our Dremel to trim our do's claws rather than clippers. She was right. A Dremel is an ideal method for trimming a pet's claws.

and it's portable! My husband & I use it on hands and feet when hard areas
or calluses have formed. The slow speed is perfect for the hands. The best aspect is that it runs on batteries, so we are not limited as to where to use it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fills without the fuss, May 7, 2004
This review is from: Dremel 762-01 Cordless Manicure Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
It costs $15+ to get a fill at a manicurist -- the tool pays for itself in less than six weeks (sooner if you aren't lazy about upkeep like I am :)). In defense of the product and to counter the one bad review: Who the heck would try to use a Dremel tool on natural nails?????
