The previous model, the 10.8V Lithium Dremel, was my most frequently used motorized tool - until now. This 12V Dremel is my new favorite and blows away the 10.8V model. The battery is much smaller but it packs a lot more power. It feels like the electric version as far as the force to keep going on tough jobs. And it lasts a lot longer too. This is a completely re-engineered Dremel, except for ONE thing, which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5 stars. It has the ancient collet for connecting the attachments. This imperfection can be easily fixed by purchasing the Dremel 4486 MultiPro Keyless Chuck, and that makes it easy to quickly swap out the accessories. Overall this is a MUST HAVE for any tool box. There are a lot of places where it is simply impractical to drag along a super long extension cord, but you still need to cut in half a rusty bolt or grind away a little cement.

This kit 8200-2 comes with two batteries.
The other 8200-1 kit includes one battery.

I've had a corded dremel for years and used it all the time. The 12v max is all that and cordless! Love that this model comes with two batteries and the 90. Went out and bought the cordless multi as well... Batteries are interchangeable!!! Since the chargers are one hour and not 30 min like Bosch chargers, having extra batteries and an extra charger was a must!............This was my original post. I've had for almost a year now and a lot has changed. The 12v max tools are ok but the batteries are crap! I've been using quite often and have a total of five batteries to rotate on the charger. A couple batteries stopped working and charging completely. I noticed that on both batteries that were not working, the metal prongs inside the batteries were bent. I contacted dremel and they told me to package tools batteries and charger up and ups will come get it since they don't have a repair center in town. It sat on my porch for a week before ups even picked it up. It then took an additional two weeks to get it back. Keep in mind that I use my tool every day for work. When I finally got everything back the first thing I did was check my battery prongs and sure enough they were still bent! They still don't charge. I put a note with the tool explaining the problem and they still didn't fix it. As far as I'm concerned I wasted $300.00 between the rotary tool, multi tool, and extra batteries. It was such a headache dealing with dremels warranty department, I think I'm just going to throw the two bad batteries in the trash and sell everything on craigs list. Stay away from dremel tools....I saw Milwaukee makes a rotary tool now and their customer service is awesome!

I've owned a Dremel for years. The uses are many and equally varied, but this review is not about how well Dremel tools work. The purpose of this review is to share with others that this new 12V rechargeable is every bit as powerful as my original (10 yr old) AC powered tool with the versatility of a cordless device. The additional cost of the kit ($129 vs. $99) is due to the inclusion of a right angle attachment and an extra battery. Considering the separate cost and usefulness of those two items, I decided it was a good idea. If you don't need the right angle attachment, it's probably still a good idea to buy an extra battery so one can be charging while one is in use. They are lithium batteries.

If you're considering a new dremel, I highly recommend this one. But if you don't yet own a dremel, I'd humbly recommend that you buy cheap first to see if you use it much. Some people find these tools indispensable whereas others have one but never use it. For me, the more I used it, the more uses I found.
