During the winter I sell firewood, so I'm CONSTANTLY needing chainsaws sharpened. I've never quite learned to perfection how to use a file to sharpen them, so I always paid to have them sharpened. The going rate per chain is $5.00 here in NC. This little tool attached to my Dremel 4000 has left me looking like a chain sharpening expert! It comes with directions that are very easy to understand, and the guide makes it possible for even a chain sharpening idiot, such as myself, to get them razor sharp. If you hate a dull saw chain as much as I do, and don't like paying to have it done.....this attachment is for you.

I was going to purchase just the Dremel attachement to sharpen my chainsaw after reading other reviews. I saw this kit came with other sharpening attachements so I thought I would get the kit.
The chainsaw sharpener worked better than I could imagine. It was quick to install and did not take long at all to sharpen my chain. I was using a chainsaw file before and it was tedious and I didn't always get it very sharp. Using this attachment, my chain was very sharp and tore through logs while spitting out nice big wood chips.
The lawnmower attachment I tried out today. It didn't do too well and my Dremel started getting hot while doing just half a lawnmower blade. I guess I just need to get a grinder. I have not tried sharpening shears yet. As of right now, I would recommend just buying the chainsaw sharpener and not the kit.

While cutting my grass, I noticed the blades that I had cut were looking ragged. For a while I did not give it much thought. Then one day I read in a lawn care article that due to the dullness of the blade, I was actually ripping the grass and not cutting it. I already had a Dremel and had heard of people using them to sharpen the blades. So I ordered the bundle and found the installation very straight forward. The result was also good. After a few minutes the blade was sharp and I reattached it back to my motor. From there I proceeded to cut the grass. The results were impressive. The mower even sounded different as the blade was easily slicing through the grass and producing a better quality cut. Over the next few week, the lawn looked better as it did not have yellowing at the tips of the grass from distressed blade. Overall very please With the product.

I'm not a lumberjack. I have a small chainsaw - a Stihl ms-180. It uses a smaller blade, with smaller teeth. I bought this kit to sharpen said teeth after helping a friend take down a dead multi-trunked tree-bush monstrosity at his new house only to discover that someone had poured concrete into the middle of the tree. Sharp blade = dull blade.

I bought this kit because I anticipated that it should work with any chainsaw blade. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite work with mine - it just barely doesn't fit within the teeth. But, it works great on my friend's blade. I haven't tried the other sharpening tool on my lawnmower yet, but I expect that it will work fine.

I'm knocking one star off because the kit is in a clamshell that you have to cut open, and thus you don't have any great way to keep everything together once you've opened it, and because it doesn't fit smaller chainsaw blades.

I have an old model 380-6 Dremel Moto-Tool. This attachment does not fit on that model correctly (and was not advertised to), because the thread pitch is slightly different. It turns out the the Moto-Tool plastic is harder than the attachment plastic, and by screwing it on firmly while pressing it on, I managed to cut a new thread in the attachment. It fit on securely, the alignment was fine, and it worked correctly to sharpen my chainsaws. I used the lowest speed, and didn't have any trouble with overheating the cutting edges of the saw teeth. Note that you should also buy a depth gauge tool and file. Sharpening the saw teeth lowers them a little, and every few sharpenings, the depth gauges on the chain need to be filed down to keep the depth of cut correct. I use a short piece of ribbon tie stuck through a link of chain to mark where I start; it is thin enough and flexible enough to pass through the drive sprocket. I haven't tried the mower blade or garden shear sharpening jigs yet.

This is the first product from dremel I have thought was really junk.

The plastic housing has two screws which hold the 30 degree angle guard in place, the holes for the screws are too large so the guide cannot be held in place properly.

The guide itself is basically a piece of junk, the spacers they provide to match the pitch / height of the chain when installed as the VERY poorly written instructions show does not align the grinding tool to the chain correctly. The stone is too deep in the chain, making the only surface to be sharpened the bottom edge of the tooth.

The stone provided is more than 1/2 gone ad I have sharpened two chains.

I like all the other dremel attachments I own, but save your money and buy a conventional sharpening file and guide set.

I have always sharpened my lawnmower blade with my bench grinder. I thought the Dremel tool would be to light but I was pleasently surprised. It took a little longer on the first sharpening. Not the fault of the Dremel tool but by me using the bench grinder, I had the wrong angle on the blade edge but once the Dremel got it back to the correct angle it goes quickly. I would recommend it all.
