Powerful Performance
The MM20 model of the Multi-Max is equipped with a 2.3-amp motor, making it 50 percent more powerful than Dremel’s previous iteration of the Multi-Max oscillating tool and immensely improving optimal performance. This Multi-Max can make faster, more precise cuts in a vast range of materials thanks to its variable-speed capability (10,000 to 21,000 oscillations per minute). A separate on/off switch and speed control maintain speed settings for ease of use and consistently ideal speed settings.

Versatility
All Dremel oscillating accessories are compatible with the Multi-Max MM20, further expanding the variety of applications it can handily tackle—plus, there are now larger accessories that are built to handle the MM20’s increased performance. The MM20’s superior blades—featuring expanded cutting width and depth that enables users to cut through more material in less time—make precise cuts through sturdy materials such as hardwoods, framing lumber, and two-by-fours. Its Quick Fit interface allows users to change accessories twice as fast as with comparable oscillating tool systems, meaning that jobs are completed efficiently. The generous seven-foot rubber cord permits users to manage the tool easily while cutting, scraping, sanding, grinding, or otherwise working with the job at hand.

Functionality
The Multi-Max MM20 was specially designed with user comfort and functionality in mind. To that end, strategically placed vent locations and a larger fan keep the tool running smoothly and coolly—making use over longer periods of time more comfortable than ever. Its ergonomic design features a narrowed soft-grip zone and a lightweight body (it weighs only three pounds) that make it a snap to reach into tight work spaces.

Powerful and easy to use.

Much to my dismay, after just 1 hour and 15 minutes of intermittent use, the new unit developed switch issues that were twice as bad as the previous unit.

I hadn't paid much attention to the oscillating tools like this 'til I received an attachment for one as a gift from my mother (she knew I had a "Dremel", and I'm guessing she assumed all Dremels were the same).

So, when I got a chance I got one of these and tried it out. I had no idea what I was missing. Makes it easier to cut square holes. Like any new type of power tool, it takes a little getting used to the technique. Don't let it sit in one spot, you won't get anywhere. Move the blade back and forth a little like it's a hand-saw and it'll cut better (by clearing the sawdust out of its teeth).

I also expected an oscillating tool like this to shake you to bits, but it doesn't. It's dependent on what attachment you have (larger ones do have some vibration), but most are very smooth.

I have owned Dremel rotary for over 30 years and it still works beautiful today. I guess quality and durability 30 years ago meant something.

I recently had a leak in bathroom shower and purchsed the MM20 and Grout Blades for immediate use to clear the shower and floor tile grout on approximately a 5x10 area. For the first 4 hours, like the other reviews say, was like a hot knife cutting through butter. Then, the unexpected set in. The on/off switch started to get really sticky. It simply refused to turn on or off easily. That is, the switch would not easily slide into the correct position. When you thought it was off, lay it down and poof, it comes back on and starts scratching tiles. Needing to continue the job, I would simply unplug the unit to ensure it was off. After 1 day of the switch issue, I returned the unit to Home Depot where they replaced it. So, back home I go to continue the work. I start using the new unit with new grout blades and was extremely careful to have a vacuum to suck out grout dust in case that was getting into the switch and "gumming" it up. Much to my dismay, after just 1 hour and 15 minutes of intermittent use, the new unit developed switch issues that were twice as bad as the previous unit.

The Dremel Support folks are only available on weekdays and of course, this was a weekend, not to mention a holiday weekend so there was not the possiblity to contact them for recommendations.

So, if you are looking for a "reliable" tool that will allow you to complete a job without having to make multiple trips to the hardware store, I recommend a brand other than Dremel as the quality was simply not there. Note that I also thought about the MM40 but the design of the power switch is identical to that of the MM20 and did not want to chance it.

I thought this might be a good way to test it out so ibought the rigid scraper attachment and got towork it was like aknife through butter
After a half hr, i ran down tothe hardware store and picked up another. We did 400 sq ft in 6 hrs. I love this thing. Im planning on doing projects ive avoided but with the variuos attahments will be no brainers..

I need to remove parkay flooring from little tiny corners under cabinets. I thought this would work geat but it simply wasn't powerful enough. For really light weight work, I'm sure it would be good.

I used this to recaulk my leaking camper. It was so much easier than trying to use something manually. It cut the time down. Priced the competition price was much better than the competion. For the amount of time I will be using this it was the best.

I can't give the Dremel MM20 a higher rating that it might deserve if I can't turn it on. It worked like a champ on 2 light woodworking & drywall projects while clocking about 2 hours of actual run-time; then the switch seized up. Pressurized air cleaning didn't help and since circumstances demanded that I continue working I chanced a tiny amount of lubricant to free the switch. I would definitely not recommend my solution but I finished the job and the Dremel is going back to Lowes.

I bought this machine to do some plunge cutting into hardwood flooring and some trimming of drywall. I like the look, feel, and balance of the tool. The power is also quite adequate. My issue is with the screw that holds the attachments in place. No matter how tight I made the screw, I could only get 5 to 15 seconds of use from the tool before the blade fell off. Sometimes, the screw would fall out along with the blade. Working for 15 seconds and then reattaching the blade is no way to make progress on a project. I returned mine and got another brand.

Had to have the cordless version, I thought, but after a very short time, the batteries just refused to charge. Another contractor told me that it was a great tool in the corded version, but he had returned his cordless one for the same problem. Having already invested a bit in the brand for blades, I was pleased to find a clearance deal on the MM20 at my local Menard's, from one example of which someone had pilfered the blades and other accessories, leaving only the tool and case in the box.

Well, it was a great tool while it lasted. Just won't run anymore. Tried everything.

My experience with Dremel on the phone has been less than ideal. I don't know what I will buy, but I know my old Dremel rotary has been excellent for quite a few years, and the oscillating tools have been very disappointing in the recent past.

Nevertheless, I am now wondering how I managed to get along without an oscillating tool before picking up the first Dremel. I will buy something. I'm leaning toward the 3-amp Porter Cable, for now, but have other issues pressing, so it might be a while.

UPDATE: Bought an El Cheapo brand on sale for $20; says it fits Dremel blades. Well, whaddaya know? It does. Fits the MM20 case reasonably well, too. Single speed, noisy, but gets the job done, for now. Cut right through some oak flooring, no problem at all. Helped immensely with the sanding on the weird little triangle I was filling in with the stuff. On sale like this, I could buy how many replacements for the $$$'ve put into Dremel? I'll guess about five more. If it makes its' one-year warranty, that would mean I'd get six years worth of the cheap model, whereas I haven't gotten one out of Dremel, even if theirs has a longer warranty. If you talk to anyone from Dremel, ask 'em to get in touch with me. There are specifics I'd like to share.

Oh, I see the price on the PC is coming down now. Might think about it if this one ever quits.
