Book Description

November 2001
This pioneering book is dedicated to the many Dresden studios that were in business in Germany in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Harrans, authors of two editions of Collectible Cups & Saucers, have researched the Dresden studios, which were mostly destroyed during World War II. This book contains more than 550 color photographs, as well as illustrations and original catalog pages of fine Dresden. The book includes background information on the town of Dresden and the decorating studios. The manufacturing and decorating processes are provided, as well as sections on Helena Wolfsohn, Carl Thieme, Donath & Company, A. Lamm, F. Hirsch, and R. Klemm. For each studio discussed, the authors provide historical information, style, forms, marks and photos. There is a section on Dresden lace figurines, collecting tips, a discussion on reproductions, a bibliography, and an index. Dresden Porcelain Studios is sure to be a hit with collectors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative! Easy to Read! Pretty Porcelain Pictures!, December 22, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dresden Porcelain Studios (Hardcover)
Dresden Porcelain made in the late 19th and early 20th century are mostly hand-decorated, and the book presents information by maker or studio, which is easy to follow. With makers marks, basic information and hundreds of photographs, the publication is a true resource for the beginning or advanced collector. I've collected Dresden for years, and refer to this book often!
I appreciate the Harran's as porcelain dealers and collectors, who, like me, have published on our favorite antiques and collectibles!

3.0 out of 5 stars For the beginner, May 3, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dresden Porcelain Studios (Hardcover)
This book is just right for the beginner. It gives a bit of history,a price range on some pieces and some lovely pictures but not many identifying marks. It looks lovely on your table, but if your looking for identifying marks, and dating your dresden this is just the tip of the iceberg.
