4.0 out of 5 stars Truly helpful, but ...
Feldon's book will help you to organize your wardrobe and make wiser fashion purchases, but much of her advice is predicated on two assumptions: that everyone looks good in black (not true and boring besides!)and that everyone should/wants to dress like Audrey Hepburn.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ageless advice
The book was a bit old ie some of the information related to fashion in the 1980s and 1990s. That said, the advice provided on style versus fashion remains relevant at any moment in time.

I bought this book because I liked "Does this make me look fat?" by the same author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tremendously useful and entertaining guide to style., September 2, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Dress Like a Million (On Considerably Less): A Trend-Proof Guide to Real Fashion (Hardcover)
No silly formulas or color charts; just good common-sense solutions to finding your own personal style and building your wardrobe around it--while staying within a budget. This book is the closest thing I've found to a '90s version of an old favorite, Genevieve Antoine Dariaux's classic (but hardly timeless) style guide, "Elegance"--and believe me, I've been looking for one!

Leah Feldon's writing is witty, interesting, and personal--and she really hits the nail on the head sometimes. Now I know why I do and don't like certain outfits in my closet, and have already figured out ways to salvage some good clothes that I've never liked once I put them on.

For once I'm actually looking forward to shopping for clothes this fall, because I know what I'm looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!, August 28, 2001
By A Customer
Love that this book is finally available in paperback. It was written a few years ago, but all the advice and tips really hold up. A classic---deserves to be in print forever! Contains totally useful information delivered in the same fun witty style as "Does This Make Me Look Fat?"---Feldon's latest book, which was featured on Oprah. Really helps you zero in on a personal style and get your wardrobe together. Highly recommended. I already own the hard cover, now I think I'll get a few of these for x'mas gifts!

4.0 out of 5 stars A woman's guide to classic elegance, July 8, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Dress Like a Million (On Considerably Less): A Trend-Proof Guide to Real Fashion (Hardcover)
Bought this book many years ago, and it has served me well throughout changes in wardrobe due to career, personal finance, climate, and size!! Don't be turned off by the 1993 publication date!! If you are interested in making what you have work and long for a simple, elegant look which is timeless (a la Audrey H.), apply her advice to your next shopping spree. Chances are there are some jewels already in your closet which her hints will help you uncover. I wish I could afford to hire her to be my personal wardrobe manager!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good light reading for great simplication of your wardrobe., March 23, 1999

This review is from: Dress Like a Million (On Considerably Less): A Trend-Proof Guide to Real Fashion (Hardcover)
This is a great book to have in your library as the fashion advice is as timeless as the classic fashion of mavens like Audrey Hepburn. The book is well written, witty, and full of information on finding the "you" in fashion or basic everyday attire. If you want to simplify your clothes, start here and not at "Chic Simple..."

This book is great for someone trying to understand the basic structure of fashion or in my case, for someone trying to intelligently by clothing gifts for the women in their lives.
