Truly the Star Wars Costuming Bible,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dressing a Galaxy: The Costumes of Star Wars (Hardcover)
The book itself is a work of art, well worth the price without the special features, and is located in an inset on the other side of the larger package book. I am blessed with a generous husband - my copy is signed, # 274, by Trisha Biggar herself, the woman who is responsible for the Prequel Trilogy costumes. But this doesn't just cover those. This anthology covers all costumes, from all movies (including a visual index of every single costume that ever appeared on a character in the movies), close ups, detailed booklets outlining Darth Vader's costumes, Amidala's costumes and the various headdresses and more. Close-ups and pictures, and more close-ups - this book is a must have for any star wars costumers. It really, truly is the bible as it relates to star wars costuming. I have never seen anything that is its equal.
I could not recommend this book more. If nothing else, the stand alone book. But if you can possibly swing it - the special edition is amazing. Breathtaking.

The Art of Costuming,
By
This review is from: Dressing a Galaxy: The Costumes of Star Wars (Hardcover)
Trish Biggar was the costume designer of the 'Star Wars' Prequel Trilogy. In this beautiful book she details the work that went into the design of the many costumes used by all of the actors shown in the three movies. In addition there are several short articles or commentaries by George Lucas (writer, director), Rick McCallum (producer), Natalie Portman (Princess Amidala), Samuel L. Jackson (Mace Windu).
This is a large format, coffee table type book. The printing, the photographs are excellent. In many cases for the more important costumes the original concept drawings are given along with a description of how they changed over time to become what we saw on the screen. Most of the book is on the prequel, i.e. Episodes I, II, and III. There are pictures of the costumes used in the original three movies as well which show how fashion design might have changed over the time between the movies. This is a fascinating book for Star Wars fans, and for anyone interested in seeing how movie costumes are developed (i.e. in at least one case, having custom fabrics woven).

If you enjoy the world of Star Wars you will thoroughly love this book. It is one of a kind book that brings the reader up close to the characters, so close you can almost touch the costumes. The textiles and fabrics of these costumes are amazing. The detail in the photos is so crystal clear, that you can almost feel the weight of the fabric. The book gives the actors take on the different costumes that he or she was wearing. High detail, high quality and a wonderful read.

I can't fully describe how incredible the costume designing is in this book. I was lucky enough to get a signed copy of the limited edition as well but, just having the regular copy is simply breathtaking. The costumes are so detailed and elaborately decorated.....they are clothes you'd want to wear if you could! Each piece is specifically designed to fit the characters, whether it be Jedi or alien. It's like the costumes are speaking for the wearers mood and place in the film. The designers really went all out and wonderfully used their imaginations to create timeless pieces. Kudos to Trisha Biggar and her design crew!

...the other day and I love it. A friend couldn't stop looking over my shoulder as I thumbed through it. The photos are great and show alot of detail. Another bonus is the chance to see the make-up on the actors. They are in full costume for the photos, so you get to see the full effect with hair and make-up. I think it's a great book for anyone who loved the rich costume details in the Star Wars film series. I also particularly enjoyed the renderings that were included. Each designer is different in how they render and it was fun to see how it looked on paper before it became the finished product.

As a costume designer and Science Fiction fan, I was delighted to get this book. It includes hundreds of stunning photographs of costumes from Episodes 1-3 with detail photographs showcasing the art and artistry of the costume department. Any costume maker will find the detailing valuable as a visual lesson in beautiful handwork. The variety and creativity of the costumes will be sure to inspire as well. And no Star Wars fan should be without this lovely book celebrating the best the series has to offer, something fresh, new and interesting.

This book is a fabulous volume looking at the costumes of all the Star Wars movies and how they developed. Whether you're a Star Wars fan recreating your favorite character's clothing or a costume geek who didn't see enough of the costumes in the movies, this is a great resource. The close up photos of fabrics and trim are particularly useful for costume designers. Wonderful book to add to your library!

Absolutely gorgeous,
This review is from: Dressing a Galaxy: The Costumes of Star Wars (Hardcover)
This book is well laid out and nicely designed. I would rate it a five except for these problems: some good costumes from the prequels are left out and there is perhaps not enough information in the book about what the costume materials are and the inspirations for them. This is not to say that those things are not addressed; I just wish there was a little more.
All in all, if this book even barely catches your eye, buy it. It's well worth the money.

This book is a wonderful addition to any Star Wars collection. It is also a great inspirational book for anyone who is a fan of Costumes. I am a costume maker and my husband is a Star Wars junkie, so there is something for both of us with this beautiful book. The book itself is very well put together, the pictures are beautiful whole page photos with very detailed descriptions of the construction of and inspiration for the costumes. We both love it and would recommend it highly!!

This is a hardcover book with a dust jacket. The book is well bind and sturdy. The paper stock is low gloss and of high quality. This is a well constructed book. The focus of this book is on the costumes for Star Wars Episode I, II and III. The amazing variety of costumes were designed by Trisha Biggar, the costume designer for Star Wars prequel trilogy. There are more than 300 photos included. The texture of the materials and exquisite details of the designs are shown clearly with many close up photos. All the costumes are captioned by the costume department and some by the actors -- Samuel L. Jackson, Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Natalie Portman and others. There are little stories on the creating the costumes, from the inspiration, designing, sourcing to execution. It's like a making-of book that focuses on costume development. The costumes are split into different categories, and respective chapters: 1. Jedi vs Sith 2. Royalty 3. Military Wear 4. The Galactic Senate 5. Slaves, Rogues & Bounty Hunters 6. Padme's Journey This book has the depth, and provides an intriguing read. (More pictures are available on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.) |
