3.0 out of 5 stars Not a TOTAL waste of time...
The only reason this book doesn't get a lower rating than 3 is the hero, Cole. He was lovely. He made the story worth reading. Drew was annoying, constantly threatening to shoot people. It was as if she didn't know how to do anything else. It got irritating after the first couple of times. It seemed highly unlikely that a man like Cole would fall for her...but, hey,...

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging from the first page!, June 24, 2000
This review is from: Drew (Cowboys) (Mass Market Paperback)
Determined to raise the money to purchase and stock her own ranch in Texas, Drew Townsend worked her way across the country as the main attraction in a Wild West Show. And she could shoot better than any man she'd come across. She had no use for a man in her life, and no time or desire for the frivolous and foolish behavior of women. Until Cole stepped down out of the stands and challenged her shooting abilities. And that's when the fun began!

Drew didn't want to like Cole and she sure as shooting didn't want to work with him, but Earl, the owner of the Wild West Show seemed sure that Cole's presence in the show livened things up. So, Drew found herself stuck with Cole in the ring as he dreamed up more tricks for her show and reasons to stay close to her.

Cole was a drifter. So where was he coming up with the money that he spent on props for the show - and why was he sticking around when Drew had made it perfectly clear she wanted him gone?

But Cole had a secret agenda. One that could ruin his life - and Drew's - if the accusations he'd been sent to investigate were true, because, come what may, Cole had somehow found himself in love with Drew. And Drew still didn't want a man in her life. Well, at least she said she didn't! Cole was determined to prove otherwise and prove Drew's innocence of the accusations against her, but first he had to figure out who the real criminal was.

Leigh Greenwood has written a spirited Wild West showdown too good to pass up between Drew and Cole. With richly drawn characters and an engaging tale, "DREW" is a keeper!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another winner for Leigh Greenwood, August 20, 2001

Leigh Greenwood has written yet another fine historical romance. This time about a girl 'cowboy'. His stories are always lively and deal with old fashioned morality, which just suits me to a T, though frankly, I am a little intimidated by a woman who can shoot a gun and ride a horse....at the same time. And she hits what she aims at. You'll like Drew. Go back and read all of Leigh Greenwood's books. He's a really good author. I recommend everything he's written.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Winning Cowboy, June 3, 2000

This review is from: Drew (Cowboys) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am an avid reader of series fiction. I love meeting new characters while hearing about old ones. I got the best of both worlds in "Drew." I enjoyed the growing relationship between Drew and Cole and hearing more about Jake and Isabelle (from the first "Cowboys" book) and even getting a chance to visit with George and Rose Randolph from Leigh Greenwood's first series "Seven Brides." I highly recommend "Drew" to anyone who loves historical western romance and revisiting beloved characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Drew: The Cowboy Series, January 24, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Drew (Cowboys) (Mass Market Paperback)
I felt that whoever wrote the introduction to this book on this website has obviously never read the book or they'd know that Drew is a girl...short for Drucilla. Furthermore, those of you who have written bad reviews on this book don't seem to know that Leigh Greenwood is not a woman, but a man. His books are even more exceptional for this alone. There aren't many men who are able to dive in a woman's mind and seek out not only her emotions so completely but those of other characters as well. I thought that this was a fantastic book. Mr. Greenwood has created yet another fearless heroine, just as he did in the other Cowboy books as well as in the Seven Brides series (which I'm reading all over again because they were so expertly written). Thank you Mr. Greenwood for a job well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Drew, May 5, 2000
This review is from: Drew (Cowboys) (Mass Market Paperback)
Simply the Best in the "Cowboy"series so far! A real insite to the characters lives and will have you anticipate the others to come. Still able to understand wihtout reading the other books in the series but once you see "inside" the character Drew you will not be able to read just one. I have read several books by this author and am amazed at the ability to bring characters to life. A must in the romance department!

The only reason this book doesn't get a lower rating than 3 is the hero, Cole. He was lovely. He made the story worth reading. Drew was annoying, constantly threatening to shoot people. It was as if she didn't know how to do anything else. It got irritating after the first couple of times. It seemed highly unlikely that a man like Cole would fall for her...but, hey, weirder things have happened, right?...Nothing comes to mind right off the bat but I'm sure there's something...Anyway, there wasn't enough dialogue and too much thinking on Drew's part, who, incidentally, accused Cole of thinking too much...go figure. :) There were some amusing parts, though, so the book really wasn't a total waste of time.

This story contains graphic love scenes.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Got Me, June 21, 2000
This review is from: Drew (Cowboys) (Mass Market Paperback)
I don't normally read romance novels because i thought all of them were like Harlequin-no plot (sorry if you like them). This turned my opinion around fast. I flew through this book fast, laughing more than any novel i've read. I'm also a fan of the seven brides series. This book is really good...sorry i'm not good with words like Greenwood is. I enjoyed this book and if this type of genre is your favorite, i recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Skillfully Told Story that Holds You in Its Grip, June 1, 2000
This review is from: Drew (Cowboys) (Mass Market Paperback)
In a recent interview, Leigh Greenwood said that it just about killed him to write three books (this one included) in quick succession. Despite the stress, when came to writing the next installment of his series, "The Cowboys," he has surpassed his already considerable skill as an author and given us one fantastic story! So apparently, he writes well under pressure.

If you are a writer who aspires to become a published author I suggest you read "Drew" very carefully. The admonishment for all writers to "show, don't tell" is demonstrated, if you are unclear on the meaning of the concept. Greenwood doesn't say, "Drew felt angry and betrayed," he shows it by crafting one of the most powerful scenes I have ever read, where markswoman Drew just about shoots the hero's clothes right off his body! Not only are we taken into the heart and soul of both the central characters, but we also are immersed in the culture of the mid to late 1870's and to know more about the itinerant wild west shows which toured the United States during that time.

But I don't want to forget that Leigh Greenwood also writes with a sense of humor. There are moments when I just had to chuckle. I've read all of his "Seven Brides" and "The Cowboys" series: Greenwood's characters and stories are memorable, because they are about human beings struggling to come to terms with life and love. I'm not sure I can convey the depths of feeling that reading this book generated for me, other than to admit that perhaps I identified with Drew, who could be described as an early feminist: a woman who struggled to maintain her independence at a time when society wasn't all that supportive of strong women.

This book is a "keeper!"
