I have a very wide foot with a high, thick instep. These shoes are perfect, even with both insoles still in place. The arch support is good. They're a little heavier than some athletic shoes I've had, but not so heavy that I feel like I'm walking in cement overshoes. The lateral stability is a real plus because I have occasional flare-ups of arthritis in my knees which can make me wobble when I walk. The cushioning is firm enough to support, but still soft enough to be comfortable. They wash easily in the machine, but it's best to take the insoles out to dry separately since they have a rubber-like bottom that can sweat in the dryer. All in all, a first rate product that I will purchase again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for my needs, October 30, 2011

As a diabetic, I needed a walking shoe that was comfortable, ventilated, padded and had no rough inside seams. This shoe fits perfectly with what I needed. The toebox is ample enough that I didn't need to order a wider width to avoid rubbing, the tongue and inside heel wall of the shoe is soft and well padded, and the inside side seams are fabric covered.

As noted by other reviewers, there are 2 insoles in this shoe - the top insoles have a soft fabric top/moulded foam rubber bottom with formed heel cups which provide less friction and more stability while walking. They also feature comfortable, moderate arch support. Underneath is a second, flat thin rubber insole for added comfort and cushioning while walking though also as noted in previous reviews, this does make the shoe feel a bit high. I removed this second set of insoles for a more natural but still well-cushioned walk.

I can see where the use of orthotics may make the shoe feel even higher, though the removal of one or both insoles should correct this problem. These shoes provide ample ventilation, medium arch support and required no lengthy 'break-in' period. As soon as they have my size in Black, I will be ordering another pair!

The Drew Flash is perfect for me; I removed the two insoles, inserted my orthotics and they are totally comfortable. I'm buying a black pair next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Shoe, December 21, 2010

The shoes feel really good. They were necessary for my orthotics. My only concern is the height of the shoes. Once I place the orthotics in the shoes, they are much higher than I'm used to in an athletic shoe. Although I like how the shoes feel on my feet, I was never able to feel completely at ease wearing them because together with the orthotic they were too high for an athletic shoe. Thus, I'm not sure I would buy these shoes again. However, the shoes are well-made, comfortable and have a nice appearance, so it would be a good purchase for someone who is comfortable with raised athletic shoes.
