"The movie posters of your dreams" - GQ

"I can’t recommend picking up Oeuvre enough. Such a great collection of the man’s art; a must own for any movie/pop culture fan!" - Ain't It Cool

"It would be tempting, looking at this massive book, to simply be reduced to a quivering mass of fanboy enthusiasm shouting hosannas, but it's the presentation of the book that denies such a simple response. Save for an introduction by George Lucas, it is almost entirely free of text or explanation, presenting several decades worth of work almost as free association. The effect is both overwhelming and personalizing, as if it were the man's private notebook printed in perhaps the most elegant form possible." - Just Press Play

"The gorgeous art book you must own." - Badass Digest

"... incredibly comprehensive and gorgeously presented... if you've got a poster-geek in your life, this is a must for them." - Movies.com

"Easily the best coffee table book I own." - Film.com

"One of the best purchases I’ve made this year, and a must have for any film fanatic." - SlashFilm

"If you're a fan of pop art, Star Wars or Drew Struzan, Ouevre would make a fine addition to your library." - Topless Robot

"A must own book for any movie or art lover." - Geek Tyrant

"This book is truly a thing of beauty—a real must-have for movie buffs and art buffs alike." - Nerd Approved

"As far as a career-spanning retrospective, Oeuvre is hard to beat." - The Playlist

"My favorite movie artist" - Steven Spielberg

"One of the very best" - George Lucas

"Struzan created some of the most indelible images of our time" - Leonard Maltin

(This review is updated to reflect some comments made by the publisher in the comments section.)

This is the updated edition of the 2004 edition Drew Struzan: Oeuvre. The publisher Titan Books considers it a brand new edition, with lots of additional and up-to-date material, plus text by Dylan Struzan - Drew's wife. It is described as 'a sumptuous companion volume to The Art of Drew Struzan'.

So what's the difference between this book vs The Art of Drew Struzan and The Movie Posters of Drew Struzan?

The Movie Posters of Drew Struzan is a 120-page hardcover selection of movie posters up to 2004. The Art of Drew Struzan is the 160-page hardcover selection of works featuring lots of accompanying sketches together with his finished drawings, complete with commentary on his thoughts and stories behind each piece. Oeuvre is collection of works representing his career, up to 2010.

Much of what you see here is duplicated in The Movie Posters of Drew Struzan so there's no point getting that book, especially when the price different is small. Even though there is duplication in The Art of Drew Struzan as well, that book is still worth getting because of his sketches and if you want to read about his creative process.

Alright, back to Oeuvre.

Drew Struzan's art is beautiful, possibly unparalleled. You already know that.

The amount of work he created is immense and this book is a tribute to his mastery.

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the quality of this book, Drew Struzan; Oeuvre. I have purchased this book from Amazon.ca and I am sending back my Fourth copy!

Every copy has had the binding come apart after only a week or so and after only flipping through a half dozen times or so.

I would think a book of this quality art would have much higher quality materials and workmanship.

I have purchased 2 other Drew Struzan books (Movie Posters of Drew Struzan and The Art of Drew Struzan) and this book is the best of them! It is double the size of the other books and even includes personal work he has done which is surprisingly different from his commercial work. I highly recommend this book.

The art and content of the book is amazing and merits 5 stars. the printing is high quality as well. HOWEVER! there are some issues with the production of the book itself. First, the spine will prettyy much instantly seperate from the pages upon opening the book for the first time. this isn't a huge issue as this allows the book to lie flat, but the bindery should have planned for the book being as thick as it is. The other issue is much more important. it seems that the book was bound together while some of the ink was still wet. this meant that the bottoms of many pages (about half of them in my case) were stuck together and are impossible to seperate without leaving areas "torn" so that there are white spots on the pages. For an art book, in which presentation is paramount, this is absolutely unacceptable, and could have been easily solved just by waiting an hour for the ink to dry completely.

Well I am sure darn glad I got this before they stop/delayed shipping it. The only thing I saw as odd was the fact that the actual book was not shrink wrapped. That's it. Not enough to complain.

Anyway...this book shows the impeccable talent of Drew. I have seen most of these images in his Art of Drew Struzan book but there were many I have not seen. I really thought this was a reprint of the original Oeuvre book that is going for over $200 but it's not It shows new projects. For example the piece he did for the 2012 Summer release of Cowboys and Aliens.

Regardless, it's all Drew Struzan and it's all wonderful!!

The book is amazing, but our copy was missing pages.

Pages 54-55 appear twice, once where they should be and then again pages 166-167

Missing art work is two paintings of darth maul comic book covers (
darth maul numbers 1-3)

Otherwise this is an incredible book.

For those of you that remember my gushing review of The Art of Drew Struzan. You would remember that I had initially planned on reviewing both books together until I realized how very different they are.

While that book may have been a glimpse into the process of the artist and was rich with contextual back story, Ouvre is more of a straight shot through Drew's illustrative career. What it lacks in exposition, it surely makes up for in sheer volume and variety of content.

This book has absolutely everything. From The movie posters that we already know and love to his recognizable works in the world of publishing and music. Books cover, magazine illustrations and music memorabilia seem like a far cry from the "Home Run" posters that we think of whenever we imagine a George Lucas or Steven Spielberg film. I rather enjoyed this glimpse into the life of the working illustrator. It was nice to see pieces that to us are still masterful, but to Drew, could have been just another paycheck.

Certain pieces feel like filler and at double the size of The Art of Drew Struzan, there certainly would have been some room to take out the weaker pieces. Although I wasn't to hot on it, I did really like the inclusion of Drew's personal work. It traditional painting that seems to be Drew pulling away from everything that has made him well known as an illustrator. When you view it, you really see this completely different narrative from anything else that he has worked on professionally.

I would recommend this book as a standalone purchase for any artist, art lover or pop culture enthusiast. As an artist, I think that it is a must to own both books, in order to really get the whole Drew Struzan story. He is definitively a modern master and is someone that drives me to push myself to become a better artist with each new piece I do.
