4.0 out of 5 stars Sister Hazel Front-Man: Ken Block!
If you have ever heard of the band, Sister Hazel, then you've heard Ken Block before. Ken Block is the front-man (if one had to be chosen)of the group. For years and through multiple albums, they have been creating FAN-tastic, age-spanning, feel-good music for the masses...just on a smaller scale. 2.0 out of 5 stars Mostly Sounds Like Country
I've heard Sister Hazel and Counting Crows before but most of these songs sounded more like the "new" country to me more than those bands. I'm not a fan of country but I did like the songs "Blue To A Blind Man" and "Ride". The rest are, to me, forgettable.

I happened upon them back in the early 2000's (I think) at a local concert venue in my area. They were so good, I ended up seeing them in concert again on 4 or 5 occasions...one of which was a two day festival!

Beyond the great music, they support many different causes and hold events supporting various charities, thus utilizing their fame to help others! (Check out the 'Rock by the Sea' music event as well as the 'Rock the Boat' cruise!)

Rock out to the first solo album by Ken Block, and seek out the Sister Hazel albums that came before. You don't know what you're missing!

I'm glad I discovered this album. I almost feel a little bad that I'm getting it for free because it's such good music. Ken's voice is great. This is my first review on Amazon and I'm leaving one because I really think you should support this artist and I really enjoyed the music.

I always check the free downloads because you never know what great new music one might find, and BAM; I found Ken Block. A really great find. Although; he's listed with Sister Hazel, and is being compared to counting crows; I thought he had a more Tom Petty kind of sound. That Rock/Country sound he does (but without the whiney voice of Petty). A good combination of music and lyrics makes "Drift" a winner in my book.

5.0 out of 5 stars If wanted a Sister Hazel CD ..., August 3, 2009

I for one like Solo releases of folks I know of and while I do like and enjoy Sister Hazel's sound, this cd is filled with gems. The vocals are strong and I do love the way his voice sounds. I look forward to more of from him. True the lyrics may be a bit more grown up than some of the groups releases but thats what makes it so nice !!

I dont think you could go wrong for a free CD. It's placed high in my current playlist.

However I will have to admit that I enjoy the upbeat tempo of Drew Copeland's CD ( a Sister Hazel member as well )also found on here,

Free at the moment, Look for it !!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good CD..., August 10, 2009

This CD has cought me off-guard. I was ex[ecting maybe 1 decent song and the rest throw-aways (because it was a free download)..Man was I wrong, this CD has like 6 good songs and no throw-aways. This is a change of pace for me music wise but I really enjoy the sound (kind of a cross between Tom Petty and Hootie and the Blowfish). If you get the chance, take a chance on this CD.

I was amazed at just how good this album is. The lyrics are very clever and tell a story. I love the way he uses his vocals as a true instrument. Sometimes an artist puts out an album that only has a few redeeming songs, but in the case of drift, every song is excellent lyrically and musically. The music is very good- a solid album that I truly enjoy listening to. I would go out of my way to hear him live.

I have been collecting CDs of almost all kinds of music for many years. I give a 5 star rating on this CD because all selections are really good composition, each song are different from each other (unlike in most CDs where most songs sound alike), the singer is an excellent vocalist and sings with his soul, the overall CD can be very apealling to many rock or pop or country or crossover fans. I consider this CD as one of the best 25 CDs in my collection of about 500 CDs. I downloaded this album free from AMAZON out of curiosity to know how this singer KEN BLOCK sounds. There is some feeling of guilt receiving an amazing album such as this one for free when in fairness to the seller you should have paid for it at least $8 and still be satisfied. I recommend this album to everybody as it is worth keeping and listening for a long time.

I was surprised at how much i enjoyed this music. I will describe it as a Ballady-rock with a country smoothness to it. Reminds me of John Cougar/Mellencamp with a country flair.

I've never heard of Ken but he sort of sounds like Counting Crows and it's a great cd. I can't believe the whole thing is free and is this good. Enjoy!
