This is one of the best western ballad albums ever made,
By A Customer
This review is from: Drifter (Audio CD)
If you love western ballads, this is one of the best albums you can find.......All of the songs were written between 1960 and 1966......If you liked "EL PASO"......you will love this album. The recording techniques and the recording itself seem to exceed any expectations you would have from a recording that was made so many years ago.......and I personally think that Marty Robbins was one of the most talented western balladeers there ever was. If you could wear a CD out, I would be worn out this one out by now......

More Gunfighter Ballads...,
By
This review is from: Drifter (Audio CD)
Another great gunfighter ballad album from singer-songwriter Marty Robbins, a name that is known quite well as the man with a knowledge of the old west, who sings these great ballads with authority, and never fails to paint a picture in the listeners mind as Marty tells it, "Meet Me Tonight In Laredo", or Marty's smooth delivery on the, "The Wind Goes", and reveals the cowboy way of hard life on the range with, "Cry Stampede", and there's the fatal, "Cottonwood Tree". Marty Robbins' tenor-baritone voice is always alive and vital with each listen, THE DRIFTER is a Marty Robbins essential to add to the gunfighter ballad series, what a voice!

I really enjoyed this cd of cowboys songs by Marty Robbins. Of course I like any cd by Marty Robbins and I think he was the most talented country star ever. The man could sing any song from ballads to Western music. This cd has many of my favorites and I would highly recommend this cd to any fan of Marty Robbins and likes western music like Saddle Tramp and Mr. Shorty which are two of my favorite songs.

Marty Robbins - The Drifter,
By
This review is from: Drifter (Audio CD)
A great companion compilation album to go with Trail Songs and Gunfighter Ballads. Continues with the great western ballads as done so well by Marty! Worth it just for the companion song to El Paso (Faleena) for all the people who want to know her side of the story.

NOT One of rhe Best,
By Eclectic Revisited "Charlie" (Arizona) - See all my reviews

Nobody liked Marty Robbins and his music more than I and while he was with Columbia Records(twice) his music generally excelled. While some of his standard goodies (like "Mr. Shorty") are here, the songs are not his best(although few would argue that he doesn't sing them well). Only the untraveled and unsophisticated who have never heard Marty's OTHER albums (just sticking to the Western ones if you like) would believe this is one of the best. The seldom-seen "Feleena" is included and gives us the middle part of the "El Paso" story but it is cumbersomely written and was not a big hit. Virtually anything by Marty Robbins is worth having but this is NOT his best.
