My first Dietz book, not my last.,
By John Carter (Cleveland, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Drifter's Run (Paperback)
Drifter's Run is the first Deitz book that I have read, and it will not be the last. I picked up this book at the local Halfprice book store when I couldn't find what I was originally looking for. I found this to be a very enjoyable book. It is what I would call a science fiction adventure story.
Dietz's story takes place in the gritty underside of a space empire filled with aliens, cyborgs and the like. Pik Lando is on the run wanted for murder. Fleeing bounty hunters he takes a job as a pilot aboard the salvage ship Junk. The story follows him on a series of adventures with the crew of Junk. This is the second book of three following the adventures of Pik Lando, however I didn't read the first book wasn't lost at all. I found this to be a very enjoyable story and upon finishing I went out and got another of Deitz's books. If you are looking for a good Sci-Fi adventure you will not be disappointed with Drifter's Run.

For some reason I really enjoy this series, it has a great lead character and some wonderful sci-fi ideas. I would recommend this book to sci-fi fans that want a hero that reminds them of.... Han Solo, in a good way.

This was the first Sci-fi book I ever read and I have been hooked ever since. Light and fast paced it's well worth the time and all fans of Dietz will love it.

An Excellent Read,

This review is from: Drifter's Run (Paperback)
I loved this book, with but one complaint: The last third should have been the last two-thirds. The pace quickens immensely, losing the development and detail that I thought shone in the beginning of the book. The plot is perfectly there, it just gave me a feeling of being rushed through.
That said, this is one author who deserves his place in my book collection, and I will be buying more of his works.

A quick bubble gum read,
By Kevin J Bingham (Santa Rosa, CA) - See all my reviews

This book is a quick and light read. While no literary masterpiece, Dietz has a good setting filled with nice details. The book reminds me of certain elements of the original SciFi roleplaying game, Traveller.
