A Great Bible,
By
This review is from: KJV Pew Bible (Burgundy) (Hardcover)
I just got this Bible today and I really like it. It is small and compact and yet the print is very readable. One great thing is that it does not contain a bunch of index columns and authors' commentaries and their own ideas--it contains only the Holy Scriptures and this is what I have wanted. This is a great volume of scripture at an affordable price. I don't think this Bible should be limited to just the church pews as the title implies. This is a great volume to take anywhere(for travel, home devotions/Bible studies, etc.). Well done.

The bible and nothing else,

This review is from: KJV Pew Bible (Black) (Hardcover)
This is the plainest bible I ever saw. Other than two black and white maps at the end, this bible contains nothing besides the bible text itself. There are absolutely no footnotes of any type. It is a black letter edition. There are no section headings. Words added by translators are in italics. This is a black hardcover bible, one which stays open by itself when opened on a desk. Inner margins are wide enough so that inner text is easily read. The font size is typical for bibles. The one problem is bleed through. This bible has about the average amount. I can see not only the page I am reading, but the page on the other side. The page is thick enough that it is difficult to read the underlying page through blank spots on the current page. This bible is definitely readable even with the bleed through, especially if the page is held up while reading it in order to cut bleed through.

This review is from: Holy Bible (King James Version), Old & New testament (Kindle Edition)
The other reviews on this page (at least most) seem to be from non-Kindle users. This King James version has a clickable Table of Contents and clickable chapters in the individual books. The NIV version is also clickable in the Kindle version and the Table of Contents on that one is a wee bit easier to read, but this will meet your needs for an easily searchable KJV and at 80 cents it is a bargain.

I bought this for about 8 dollars. If you can get into the King James language then this is perfect for you. I've gotten a lot out of this Bible and I love it.

King James Rules, New Revised Sucks,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: KJV Pew Bible (Black) (Hardcover)
You will never again have the precise, high-minded language of the King James version of the Bible, so enjoy it while it's still in print, before the New Revised Standard Version renders it obsolete. Modern versions of the Bible have been edited for that lowest-common-denominator trait, "readability," which means they've been dumbed down to street talk instead of pumped up to high speech, like the KJV. This version of the Bible sounds like a document translated by smart people, from knowledgeable sources, and it feels like the received word of God through its concise use of language and word choice. In short, this book sounds authoritative in a way the NRSV, with its colloquial speech, does not and never will. It will always be my Bible of choice and will be the only one on my shelf, NRSV need not apply!

An ambitious book!,

The anonymous authors certainly have a big story to tell. There's no doubting the calibre of the subject matter, one might even call it epic. I very much look forward to their next book.

I bought these to use in Sunday School for children who do not bring Bibles to class. It has proven invaluable as they learn to read and find scriptures during the lesson.

Book was in good condition. However, did not come with a ribbon for a bookmark. All in all, the book is a good product and there was fast delivery.

I bought this Bible for a wedding, and was disappointed it was not true white, but rather more cream-colored. If the color is important to you, keep this in mind.

One Big Main Character With The Most Unique Plot Device,
By
This review is from: KJV Pew Bible (Black) (Hardcover)
Quite an epic that spans the beginning of time till the end of time. I must say- quite a coverage. The main character is a Dude named God who goes by many aliases (Yahweh, Elohim, and all that)where the main plot device is the coming of His Son who is also Him (who also has a few aliases of his own). This is a little confusing for most readers so a little exposure to Tolkien's Trilogy would be like a pre-soak before the actual wash. So I guess Iam that Iam would be a good supporting title. The stories are so disjointed (kinda like reality) and the heroes go from rocking to dismal to loser. I realize that the guy Israel is also the nation Israel and wonder at who can write-up a character that cons his own dad and then fathers a lot of kids from four women and starts up a whole nation. I guess they try to pencil in a ton of human fraility so it would get pick up by the networks. They commit the error of over-dimensionalizing the core characters and packing them with too much despicable traits that they end up being unlikable. It could be the start of new literary trend. I wouldn't know. The whole book only becomes understandable if one considers the actual plot device which remains as some sort of promise that didn't arrive until a few thousand years later when too much mess has passed. It gets kinda tragic towards the end when they crucify the main plot device (who as we said earlier is also the main character existing in one- well actually there are three of them, which makes it even more confusing). I like the part of the talking-ass, the snake that eats the snake, the water-to-wine trick and that bitch that gets eaten by dogs. It has its moments. More imaginative than Tolkien and less than Harry Potter. I like they divide it into two books although it doesn't help you make sense of the four hundred missing years in between- although I've been told that it was in the original Septuagint version. I dont think I'll be spending for that one. The last book was a little too Cocteau-Dada for me. Its like a 100 AD Allen Ginsburg wrote it. It tries too hard to be weird and ends up being creepy and corny. At least the last page manages a happy ending although it felt 'thrown-in'. As a read its a bit of an emotional roller-coaster with bad to good, funny to preachy. The language is a bit too aged and the division of chapters almost senseless. It has its own cliffhangers like we all wonder what ever happened to that serpent at the beginning until he shows up again towards the end except he is no longer a serpent??!!! It has its scary and happy bits. Covers all the range from myth, sci-fi, horror, sagey, adventure to drama- LOTS of drama. Would make a good mini-series for 5 seasons- at least better than that Desperate Housewives thingy. |
