This facsimile edition of the 7th edition of the instructions for British volunteers was first published in 1860. Its musketry instructions deal chiefly with the British Pattern 1853 rifle, which was supplied by the British to both Union and Confederate combatants during the US Civil War. The manual covers cleaning the firearm, dismounting and remounting the lock, aiming and position drills, judging distance, target practice, volley firing, and skirmising. The manual also includes marching, skirmishing orders, and formation movements.
