Book Description

Born youngest of four children into a large family of old money, American photographer Abigail Christensen entered a world already expecting great things of her, and spent her entire life trying to conform, striving to please a family she knew she never could. Finally breaking free of stifling conventionality, she travels to Mexico, drifting from province to province as she captures photographs for an upcoming exhibit, wishing she had settled for the monotony of her previous lifestyle when she attracts the attention of legendary drug lord, Esai Molinero.

Editorial Reviews

...Author Vicki Allen has created a world of intrigue, daring and a drug cartel in an exotic setting in her latest book, Drink One To Me, Christian Bennett --John Williams, The Daily Oklahoman

Drink One to Me, Christian Bennett, author Vicki Allen s fourth novel, is a real cautionary tale as to why you should never accept a cocktail from a stranger at a foreign bar... The story is alternately entertaining and infuriating, and definitely creepy, but it does keep the reader interested in finding out what happens next. --New Orleans Magazine, Read and Spin, June 2009

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of surprises May 6, 2009
Without giving up any secrets, there are a lot of surprises and twists. Adventure, romance and suspense. I don't spend a lot of time reading, but I finished the book in 2 days. I just had to get to the end to see how it all unfolded.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome timing!!! May 19, 2009
I couldn't put this book down! The characters are so real (as in all of Vicki Allen's books). With all the stuff going on in Mexico and the border towns right now - and the Natalie Holloway movie . . . the timing is perfect!! Interesting, entertaining and suspense-filled!

5.0 out of 5 stars A highly recommended read July 7, 2009
If you expect too much, you'll only be disappointed. "Drink One to Me, Christian Bennett" tells the story of photographer Abigail Christensen, who was raised by an esteemed family that expected the world of her. But their expectations are shattered as she leaves the country and finds the attention of a Mexican drug lord. An intriguing novel of what people will do in the name of personal freedom, "Drink One to Me, Christian Bennett" is a highly recommended read.

More About the Author

Novelist Vicki Allen's writing career began and--almost ended--as a 15-year-old teenager. Her first novel, For Molly--was started in high school, tossed into a closet to hibernate, rediscovered and finished as an adult--took 20 years to complete. In contrast, Allen's fourth novel, Drink One to Me, Christian Bennett, was completed in only five months and 29 days, a personal best for the author.

"Drink One to Me, Christian Bennett came to me in a huge, inspirational wave on while I was sitting in my car, waiting for my husband: Storyline, characters, dialogue--everything. Boom! It was incredible. I went home and immediately began to write. Within two sleep-deprived weeks, I had written 150 pages." --Vicki Allen

Known for her ability to create poignant stories that speak to southern sentimentalities, Christian Bennett is a bit of a deviation from Allen's previous works.

"Christian Bennett is different and I'm very excited about that. It is my personal favorite, and in my opinion, the best I've written to date. --Vicki Allen

Hailing from the Heart of Dixie, this Birmingham, AL native lived briefly in Virginia before settling in Central Louisiana at age eleven. She graduated from Pineville High School, studied journalism at Northeast Louisiana University and relocated to Oklahoma City, where she graduated from The University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy.

In addition to being a prolific novelist, Allen is also a co-owner and practicing pharmacist at Sentry Drug & Grill in Alexandria, La. A little slice of "Mainstreet Americana," Sentry -- housed in a historic downtown building -- is a nostalgic drugstore with a full-service breakfast and lunch counter.
