Book Description

We have been silenced since childhood, Michele says, by the teacher, the parent, the bully. In a series of excercises, she teaches how to "pull away the cover" from the well leading to your natural voice. Listeners explore the place of "shadow and creativity", working along with exercises based on tone, volume, and control. Includes songs and chants.

4.0 out of 5 stars It Works, January 19, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Drink from the Well (Audio Cassette)
In the Artist's Way at Work, there is a chapter on media deprivation. One example of giving up outside media for a week was working on voice lessons while driving the car. Since I am known for a soft voice, it sounded worth a try and I found this tape on Amazon.com. Amazingly enough, people really do hear me now with a lot more ease. I even find myself speaking at occasions when I would have been quiet in the past. Best of all, I just love singing the songs on this tape and sitting in traffic is now such a treat. The songs stay within me and really pick up my day. Give it a try - it does beat the news!

1.0 out of 5 stars Only for the desperate..., April 24, 2000

Karen (Tennessee, U.S.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Drink from the Well (Audio Cassette)
I was looking for a tape to coach me in speaking more clearly. This tape never even delves into the art of speaking. It seems to be designed for people who have been so traumatized by childhood events that they cannot even open their mouths. The few activities that were not songs (songs which take up over 50% of the running time) were quite silly and unhelpful. I am annoyed and disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sing Out, Speak Out, May 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Drink from the Well (Audio Cassette)
I thought Karen's review was rather harsh. This is a tape to help people sing, rather than make a speech. However, as a drama teacher, I have found that helping people sing out can also improve projection, tone, etc. when speaking. I found this tape very freeing. If Karen's not using to doing vocal exercises, they may well seem "silly" - but they do work! Give it another chance!
