4.0 out of 5 stars It Works
In the Artist's Way at Work, there is a chapter on media deprivation. One example of giving up outside media for a week was working on voice lessons while driving the car. Since I am known for a soft voice, it sounded worth a try and I found this tape on Amazon.com. Amazingly enough, people really do hear me now with a lot more ease. I even find myself speaking at...

1.0 out of 5 stars Only for the desperate...
I was looking for a tape to coach me in speaking more clearly. This tape never even delves into the art of speaking. It seems to be designed for people who have been so traumatized by childhood events that they cannot even open their mouths. The few activities that were not songs (songs which take up over 50% of the running time) were quite silly and unhelpful. I...

Since I am known for a soft voice, it sounded worth a try and I found this tape on Amazon.com. Amazingly enough, people really do hear me now with a lot more ease. I even find myself speaking at occasions when I would have been quiet in the past. Best of all, I just love singing the songs on this tape and sitting in traffic is now such a treat. The songs stay within me and really pick up my day. Give it a try - it does beat the news!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sing Out, Speak Out, May 24, 2000

I thought Karen's review was rather harsh. This is a tape to help people sing, rather than make a speech. However, as a drama teacher, I have found that helping people sing out can also improve projection, tone, etc. when speaking. I found this tape very freeing. If Karen's not using to doing vocal exercises, they may well seem "silly" - but they do work! Give it another chance!

4.0 out of 5 stars An odd experience, September 19, 2002

I enjoyed this tape, though I also found it to be an odd experience. The author appears to have developed a method of working with childhood trauma through releasing pent-up emotions via the voice. I wish she had said more about her therapeutic endeavors. One must take on faith that releasing the limitations on one's voice and becoming more vocally self-expressive will have a healing effect. Those familiar with Reich's notion of character armour will understand where she is coming from. The songs on side 2 of the tape are enjoyable to sing along with. Overall I am intrigued by this tape and will need more time to digest her ideas and to play along with the music.
