A group of us went out one night because some friends were in town. Throughout the night of drinking we just about covered all of our bases....PBR, Icehouse, Jack Daniels, Evan Williams, Cuervo, and some crappy vodka in a bloody mary. I guess we all had different tastes. I knew I was doomed the next day, and decided to give Drinkin' Mate a shot. When we woke up the next morning, I was shocked at the fact that I was just a little tired (we were up for most of the night), but other than that felt FINE...as opposed to my poor friends who just wanted to curl up in a hole. TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT!

there is a lot of misinformation on hangovers out there. if you consume more alcohol than your liver can easily process, whether that be 3 beers or 6 or 12 or 15, you will get a hangover. there is no such thing as a hangover cure, unless you want to call it not drinking much in the first place. furthermore if you drink a glass of water between drinks or eat also, while this will help your body process alcohol better, it will also dampen the effects of the alcohol. most likely you will in turn just drink more to reach that buzz and eliminate the benefit of drinking the water between drinks or eating food altogether.

so, the only cure for a hangover is time. your body has to heal and that process takes time and how much time varies from person to person. since you cannot prevent a hangover once you have drank too much, you can only shorten the time it takes for your body to heal and/or alleviate some of the uncomfortable symptoms you experience during the hangover. but you cannot eliminate it altogether. the latter is what this effervescent is for.

i have used it and i will say that it works somewhat well. i don't have the extreme nausea that i used to get with hangovers, but i do get a slight headache and light-headedness, and this pill also makes you feel really sleepy, but not really in a good way. someone else touched on it but it makes your eyes heavy and sting pretty badly. that all on 8+ hours of sleep usually. i did not have these symptoms of a hangover when i did not use drinkin' mate, so they are definitely caused by the product.

is that better than a hangover? yes. in fact when i get hangovers, they are so bad i generally cannot function. i have a fast metabolism so my hangovers are only for an afternoon usually, but i am miserable the entire time. at least using these helps me get out of bed and go to work or run errands if i need to.

i got the same benefit from taking 2 alka-seltzer's the next day and drinking 2-3 bottles of gatorade/water over the course of the day. i found the AS helped ease the symptoms probably better than this drinkin' mate does, and the gatorade shortened the duration of the hangover since i was replenishing my body with needed nutrients. i find the drinkin' mate makes me feel a little too dazed, and when my supply runs out (if it does), i will switch back to the alka-seltzer/gatorade method. drinkin' mate does nothing to shorten the amount of time you are hungover. if you are reading this, i would tell you to try an OTC effervescent like alka-seltzer first before purchasing these (expensive) products. effervescents in general are good for tummy-aches, as the bubbles help settle that nausea you may experience during a hangover.

on the flipside i will say that i'm glad this product does not eliminate a hangover, and that even after you take it you will still definitely feel like you drank the day before. i think this is a good thing, only because as you get older your body tells you via hangovers that it's time to slow down drinking. it's nice to ease the symptoms of a hangover, but i think it's important to be reminded every day after a long drinking session that your body just isn't cut out for alcohol in those quantities anymore.

I tried a fair number of bogus products over the years until I found Cheers tablets which worked great and were very convenient. Then Cheers changed their formula and started pushing a liquid form which I disliked. That's when Drinkin' Mate came along. I was very skeptical of the whole backstory behind this guava extract product, but I tried it and it really works. It's a little hard to find the same package sizes in stock at any given time, but I've re-ordered several times, settling for whichever package is available at the time. Although the effervescent tablets are not as convenient to use as the Cheer tablets which I could just pop while drinking, the best things about Drinkin' Mate are that one tablet covers me for the whole night (with Cheers, the more you drank, the more tablets you would need to take) and that Drinkin' Mate works even if you've been drinking for hours before you take Drinkin' Mate (with Cheers, you had to take it before you started or soon after you started).

Drinkin' Mate isn't total, absolute salvation; I've managed to overdo tequila shots to the point where I still woke up with a splitting headache despite Drinkin' Mate, but I can easily offset a half-dozen cocktails or a 6-pack of beer with Drinkin' Mate and be fresh and alert the next morning.
