About the Author

Tony Conigliaro has worked with many of the world's top chefs, restaurateurs and food writers, including Heston Blumenthal and Harold McGee. He won the award for International Bartender of the Year 2009, as well as the Observer Food Monthly award for Bar of the Year in both 2010 and 2011 (for 69 Colebrooke Row and Zetter Townhouse, respectively). Tony takes the principles of molecular gastronomy and merges them with 200 years' worth of bartending tradition, often blurring the distinction between food and drink. His drinks conjure a full sensual experience that encompasses taste, sight, smell, texture and even sound.

I had originally pre-ordered this book, knowing how excited I was to read it. Unfortunately the pre-order didn't work as planned, and as such I re-ordered it just a few weeks ago. It arrived yesterday, and I found within just a few pages I was immensely compelled to finish it. I'd argue that Tony is one of the brightest minds in the cocktail world, and his approach / philosophy towards not only drinks, but flavour is very adequately captured and expressed in this book. Keep in mind, many of the recipes contained in this book will take TIME, and in quite a few cases, some form of specialized equipment - but then again, this book is almost more about Tony's approach to drinks rather than the drinks themselves. I will absolutely be revisiting this book throughout future endeavors, and will be suggesting it to all my bartending friends.

Tony Conigliaro is a master bartender, and this, his first book, is a must-have for anyone wanting to mix truly great cocktails. But, this is more than just a cocktails "cookbook." This book is a look into who Mr. Conigliaro is, and gives you a peek into how he creates the masterpieces that he does. Each recipe includes the story of the cocktail and

Now, some of these recipes are not for the faint of heart. For example, the Cosmo Popcorn uses liquid nitrogen, something not found in most homes. Well, not mine anyway. :-) Indeed, this is not a book for the beginning bartender.

However, I dare say that if you are reasonably experienced at mixing drinks, you will find recipes that you can use, and some very interesting tips!

When a cocktail book gives you twenty new ideas in its first twenty pages you know you've got yourself an amazing book. I have the feeling this book will be a key motivator in the next few months for me to test out new ideas, and the scientific approach Tony shows towards testing and experimenting is admirable. This is nothing short of an excellent book.
